Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EA Montreal shifting focus away from Wii games

Just for completeness, here is EA's revenue per platform in the latest quarter:

X360: $171 million
PS3: $142 million
Wii: $142 million

Clearly the Wii is competitive in terms of revenue... Even if you consider the PS360 as a single platform, it's hard to believe they're much more profitable on it than the Wii, given the vastly higher HD development costs.

^But they can't make the super leet grafix on teh Wii

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Respect that they will put more time in the blockbusters even if it means having a higher chance of going bankrupt...Respect.

Well I don't mind seeing EA go down because of blindly following Sony and Microsoft. Just leave us UbiSoft and Sega. The rest can all go die making high quality cinematic material if they want. Its their money and I don't buy their products so let em leave. Not sure how many others here buy EAGames. To date the only EA game I own is Blur and I got it for 9.99$ boxing day. EA just doesn't make the kind of games that suit the Wii.

Thats also including EA's poor marketing of Wii products. You see Army of Two advertised all over. You see ads for Need For Speed ads for MedalOfHonor now tons of ads for Dante's Inferno yet you never see them putting any effort into hyping their Wii products. I bet if EA threw their money behind some decent ad campains that their Wii software would start selling alot better!

As of October 2008, EA had almost 10000 employees. Since then they laid off 2500, so the company got 25% smaller.

Given that their latest cost reductions are not enough for profitability (they're saving around $100 million a year, but lost $391 million in the last quarter alone), I wouldn't be surprised to see even more layoffs.

More layoffs means less studios, which means less projects, which means more risk from expensive projects.

It would be kind of awesome to see EA go under (except for the people losing their jobs), imagine the shockwave that would send through the industry

How about Nintendo buys EA when the company is small enough?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Maybe some of their studios, but I doubt they'd buy the company itself.
