Hey vlad I have a serious question. I know you think console games are all shovelware and suck so I'm wondering how you rank Half-Life 2? I'm only asking because I recently purchased The Orange Box and I played through the game and all its episodes for the first time so I want to see how you feel about the game personally. I haven't played Portal or Team Fortress yet though so I don't have opinions on those games yet.

I thought Half-Life 2 was pretty fucking amazing. Mostly because of the way the tory was told (you never see anythign other than what Gordon sees) and the fact that in a given 30 minute period you are not gonna be doing the same thing. You are either surviving zombies, driving a boat, a car, defending from ant lions, fighting gun ships, defending a prison, etc. Graphics are oldish but I never put value on graphics anyhow. Portal on the other hand I have to tell you is abslutely amazing and one of the best games to come out in the past 4 or 5 years, if not the best.

I agree, the physics puzzles were amazing, the shooting mechanics are solid, the story intriguing and I like the fact that you stay in first person the whole time. I did have a couple problems with it though. One was the loading times. I hated the fact that the game had to stop and load level segments. It wasn't really because I had to wait a few seconds to play again but because I felt like it discouraged me to explore since I was always worried about going through a hall and passing a load checkpoint forcing me to go back through the checkpoint to explore the rooms I hadn't been to yet or blocking off the previous map entirely. I wish they had implemented level streaming like most games today do.  Also the AI for the common soldiers was bothersome too, although Alyx's AI was superb. I actually got pinned in a corner by an AI companion once and he wouldn't move so I was stuck and had to reload the level.

Another problem I had with the game was trying to understand the story. I get the gist of it but I wish they had placed hidden terminals explaining the back story in more depth like in Halo 3 or audio logs like in Bioshock. For me story is a huge element in a game and Half-Life has such a rich universe I just wish they had gone into more depth with the story or at least given the curious player mechanics for uncovering the deeper story.

Overall though most everything I complained about are small nitpicks and I won't even bother going into what I liked about the game cause I could go on for a while. I also have to say I thought Episode 2, although short had the best gameplay experience and story out of all the other Half-Lifes. I was actually worried for Alyx when she was struck down by the Hunters and its very hard for a game to make me care about its characters.

Basically the fact that the developers didn't treat the gamer as a child and forced us to figure out puzzles on our own was amazing and I see why you think PC games are the best, they never hold your hands and guide you. But I disagree with you and think that consoles have games that can give you the same deep experience as PC games, you just have to look a little harder for them.

A lot of the story is told by the world. There are newspaper clippings in the doctor's office at the very beginning showing the UN burning and mentioning the 7 hour war and stuff. Also the voice overs of Breen saying what has been happening and stuff, such as the inablity to procreate, and what the Combine are doing to humanity, especially evident later by the stalkers. The vortigaunts also drops hints, such ass what happened at Xen and stuff. There's a site that has pieced everythign together and I remember looking at it and noticing that I missed a whole lot of story info while playing through the game.

So I coudn't help but notice some things on this oard which everyone keeps repeating, even me, whether it's true or not. So after looking over them I couldn't help but notice a pattern going relating all the platforms so here I will presents the biggest arguments someone has against their rival platforms.

HD vs. Wii

Arguments against Wii:

- Subpar graphics

- Lack of good controls

- Lack of good core games

- Horrible online

- Subpar small games releases

- Shovelware and games which barely iterate and bring anythign new to the scene, dumbed down games

Most of this are no "arguments" but biased opinions with no substance. There are as many "core" games on the Wii as on PS360.

And HD is only the correct term for the PC. Most PS360 Games did not support the "low" 720p HD-Resolution. The game images are calculated at a low resolution and only stretched to fit HD-Resolution. The last-last-Gen gamepad controls of PS360 didn't help either. On top of this the PS360 games are very expensive. The Wii/PC game prices are much lower (and the PC has almost all PS360 Games with better graphics and better controls).

Can you give me the website. I pieced together everything about the 7 hour war and basically what happened while Freeman was gone. What I don't understand is who the vortigaunts are, where they came from and why they are helping us. I also have no idea who the G-Man is and what he wants. Also in the last episode, what in the hell is the Borealis and why is it so important?

Ah, the hierarchy of console elitism.

PC players look down on HD consoles, who look down on SD consoles, who look down on handhelds, and everybody looks down on Apple. 'Course, this can also work on the opposite direction, depending on the elitists and the quality of elitism in question.

Then again, if everyone would get along with each other, the Internet would be a far more boring place.

PC vs HD

Arguments against HD:

- Subpar graphics: Yh i will give you that one

- Lack of good controls: Sorry but for most genrest the PS3 controller is superior then the mouce and keyboard. Unless you mean use a gamepad with some games. And you do realise the PS3 supports mouce and keyboard in its games?

- Lack of good games: The mind boggles. I really hope this isnt your opinion and you are just generalizing what a PC fanboy would say when they are bitching about why a certain console has gotten a game they have not got on pc.

- Horrendous online (you even have to pay for it on some systems): The online you and i are used to for the PC seems to be going the way of the dodo. And the online for consoles is crap how?

- Subpar small games releases: Wait wait what? And the pc doesnt? Oh please i have seen more then enough pc games that i wouldnt even give to charity.

- Games which barely iterate and bring anything new to gaming, dumbed down games: Oh really. Ok then. So i guess you never heard of GT

- Lack of online communities: Yh i will give you that. Because it aint an online community. You are playing against your real life friends online. So that aint really an online community because its your local community playing with you online ;)

- DLC should be free: Yh i will give you that. but i am sure some DLC are starting to go for the pay route

Arguments vs PC:

- Lack playing locally on many games (anti-social) Yh

- Too costly: I dont think it is

- Too complex to play because of installs, updates, patches, hardware failures: Thats probably right

Comments, corrections, additions and anything else is welcome.

I marked what i said in red.

And about the HD consoles not having games. I am sure it was only yesterday when lots of PC gamers were bitching about MAG. saying that it should have been made for the PC instead. Yh the HD consoles aint got no games

What about stuff like Virus ?
Conveniently forgot to mention it eh ?
Or the fact that yeah PC have mods and steam but how many PC users actually use those ?
Heck, why the F*** would I use Steam to launch wow, none of the people I played wow with for 3 years ever did...
PSN and Xboxlive come out of the box...

I think you missed my entire point. I didn't mentoin RROD or any of that shit that the HD consoles have that the Wii doesn't have didn't I?

Also most of the PC gamers DO use mods of some sort. Also apparently Steam is close to 21% of overall PC sales so it seems to be widespread. And as I mentioned above, WoW probaly has a bigger and better community by itself than all of PSN/LIVE combined. Also the ability is right there. Also you do need a wifi adapter for your 360 to even connect to the online on the 360 (as any PS3 fan will tell you) and PSN just lacks feaures (as any 360 fan will tell you).

@Jer

That's the thing you have to drop a whole bunch of money to have a single dedicated server. Same for UT3, the development tools were there solely because the PC has been getting them from developerss for most games out there.

Once again you contradict yourself.

You listed hardware failure as  HD console disadvantage in the Wii vs HD comparison.

Do you even read what your post or just copy paste random stuff you find on the web ?

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PC vs HD

Arguments against HD:

- Subpar graphics -- Uncharted 2 says HI

- Lack of good controls -- Yeah, I mean reviewers ALWAYS complain about this don't they {wink wink}

- Lack of good games -- So your joking now?

- Horrendous online (you even have to pay for it on some systems) -- Yeah horrendous online, that just happens to be very very popular & Xbox Live is seen as top quality

- Subpar small games releases -- ergh....the PC has many many more of these if you count the cheap $5 games you get on the net

- Games which barely iterate and bring anything new to gaming, dumbed down games -- ROFLMAO

- Lack of online communities -- Halo 3 says YO

- DLC should be free -- PC DLC is Free?

Arguments vs PC:

there are only corrections I'm afraid

They are in the colour blue in your quote post!

Did everyone understand that the OP was making an observation and not expressing his personal view? It is simply a take (and a pretty good one) on how arguments play out in here.

if you read the posting history of the OP, he is expressing his personnal views....

He missed one thing, Wii and PC users actually have a lot in common.

They can't prevent but bitch at every game they get or do not get on their platform....
