Forums - Gaming Discussion - Modern Warfare 2 is not nearly as good as the original Modern Warfare...

umm there is such thing as a heartbeat sensor, my grandpa used one when he killed some koreans...

I really don't understand why this game sells like hot cakes.

I think its head and shoulders above the first one. Multiplayer is much more fun now that there are so many class variables. I don't feel like everyone is using the same weapons anymore. I love the customized killstreaks. Single player story was a little hard to follow but it was very good in my opinion. I have no complaints.

heartbeatsensor FTW!

I think this game is DIFERENT os MW"1"... It´s a good game, I am more into the ONLINE gamming than single player.. level 39..

My noob opinion: MW2 online in PS3 is kind cool, but I use more the invite feature to join friends games than matchmaking... other thing... MW2 ins´t for snipers that stays in the same spot more than 20 seconds...

I really liked and since I got it, didn´t played MW"1" again...

I see that the single player campain starts "slow"...

sorry about my terrible english.

The first 1/3 of the camapign is a bit weaker than in CoD4, but the rest is at least equally awesome.
Spec Ops mode is fantastic though. Multiplayer is also a bit better, so overall I'd say it's better than CoD4.
GOTY candidate (My GOTY is AC2 though, no doubt about that)

Do you have a reference for that?  I can find no sources saying that heartbeat sensors were used in the Korean War.

After completing the single player campaign on Veteran, getting to level 70 in multiplayer and trying out the special ops mode I have come to the conclusion that Modern Warfare 2 falls well short of the original game. I don't think the game is bad, but it does not even come remotely close to meeting expectations and hype.

Here are my reasons and complaints:

Campaign is shorter and not nearly as epic and fun.

Multiplayer maps are horrendous: bad design, most too large, almost everywhere on the maps you have to watch your back from 10 different directions to avoid getting snuck up on.

There is a lot of problems with matchmaking not working properly. Many times it takes longer to get into a match than it takes to play it, plus the teams are almost never balanced and almost every match 1 team is outnumbered.

The weapons are very inconsistent with how they work. One kill you hit a guy once and he drops and the next you hit the guy 10 times and he lives. I have seen people take direct hits from RPGs and live.

There are too many aerial weapons where one team can have a chopper, UAV, harrier all at the same time. Then if there is an AC130 you basically have to stay indoors to have a chance at not dying. Also, the aerial weapons quite often target a single target way too many times. There are times where I die to the same aerial weapon 5-6 times in a row, which includes me trying to shoot the damn things down with them always getting me right before I launch my weapon at them.

The host based system is poorly implemented and many times the host has the absolute worst connection out of everyone causing major lag issues.

The knife is horrible compared to the first game: it takes too long to come out, too long to be put away and the button is way too sensitive. Many times I get random knife draws when making a quick turn even though I did not press down on the button at all.

There are way too many attachments for the weapons, half of which are pointless for many of them. There is no reason to have a red dot sight and a holographic sight as there is not enough difference, plus I am finding the red dot sight that you get first is a little better overall.

The heartbeat sensor is the worst idea I have ever seen for a shooter. There is no such thing in real life, and I see way too many noobs camping with it and just waiting for people to come by and knowing exactly where you are at all times.

Overall Modern Warfare 2 is a good game, but it is not game of the year, and not better than the original. I am already tired of playing the game after only a couple of weeks and am very disappointed.

10 million people would disagree!!!!!!! The multiplayer is the best that I've ever played in a game!!!!!!!!!

I'd say it's superior except for:

1) That one single player mission: "No Russian"

2) Online multiplayer is a little unbalanced. At least with MW1 the most overpowered weapon (M16) was available from the get-go. This one it isn't available for a while AND the thermal scopes are ridiculously unbalanced. One of the best things about MW1 was camouflaging until you got close enough to the enemy sniper, now there is no fun/ability to do that with these thermal weapons. I can't believe how conservative they were in MW1 in terms of weapon choices and attachments (which therefore made it balanced) and how easily they are letting completely unbalanced things (like the thermal sight) into this game.

3) Online maps are less memorable. I hate how some of the maps are multi-tiered (Brazil maps) because it makes those levels non-accessible to newer people who aren't really sure about where you can go and what roofs you can scale and what they can see on them. At least with the first game it was basically areas that everyone can access and areas that only the pro's can get to (which was like 1 or 2 at most) because they've worked out their location. I like how these new maps have more detail put in them but it makes the game less user friendly. Also, the wasteland map is awful.

4) Killstreaks. Death streaks are awesome, and customisable kill streaks are awesome, but some of the killstreaks are way too overpowered. The first game they were more balanced because you knew that the worst thing that they could throw at you was 1 helicopter.. this one they've got all sorts of things and you can basically line up 3 killing killstreaks in a row, instead of the UAV, air strike and helicopter. (At least in the first game a killstreak weapon didn't completely mean gameover like it does with this game). At least they should have had a tier system (3 kills = choice of UAV, UAV jammer, Drop etc) and so people were forced to pick at least 1 non-deadly killstreak bonus and then 2 lethal ones..

Maybe I'm just venting because I haven't played much and haven't gotten good enough to dominate like I did in MW1, but I think those complaints will still stand at the end.
