Xbox Europe Blown Away By Reception Of Sky Player On Xbox 360

http://dailygamesnews.com/2009/11/xbox-europe-blow-away-by-reception-of.html

Xbox Europe boss Neil Thompson has revealed just how blown away the team is by the reception of the Sky launch on Xbox 360. To say he's 'happy' would be a little understating:
“We were blown away – literally – by the response we had, and we took some flak, probably fairly."

“We didn’t scale to quite the scale we should have, and I take that criticism on board and we’ve learned from it. But now it’s up and running, people are loving it, the subscription rates, the download rates for the application and so on are just blowing my mind away, they’re blowing the people at Sky’s minds away.”

“It’s proving incredible popular… It is a phenomenal success at this point."

MS hyperbole, or real success?

I'm just a Yankee, what gives with the Sky player across the pond? What's it all about?

I want this but we have Virgin Media atm, maybe they'll strike a deal with them too in the future? I prefer Sky but I find V.Broadband better ... hmm

Sky is the biggest pay-tv supplier in the UK. Basically you have live tv channels and on-demand services on the 360: Sports, Drama, Movies etc. It costs a bit though if you haven't already got a subscription with them, but if you are subscribed, its real good (what I've seen of it anyway)
Have a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i-I2gtj5wc

Its ideal for people wanting to watch pay tv in their bedrooms, in student halls (dorms? in the usa) flats etc where you can't install a satellite dish

US equivalent please

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Great news for Xbox Europe.

We'll trade you access to Sky for us getting Netflix, sadly same issues with licensing.

This is so over hyped. Nearly everone in the UK has a sky box which you get for free. The service offered on the xbox is more expensive with less channels available. My friend( one of the few people who does not have sky) was considering this but backed out when he saw the prices and just went for sky directly.
