Forums - Sony Discussion - Would you like it if Sony started producing CELL chips for PC?

Google is promoting their OS as designed for low power, cheap netbooks used for browsing and very basic tasks. I don't see how the cell would be any kind of advantage for the Google OS. It's all about cheap and low power consumption.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

they should do a bit more R&D and launch it for the PC and have Google partner them with ANDROID

You know that Andriod is an OS for small devices, right? Not desktops? Building an OS to run on the cell architecture effectively would require the OS to be rebuilt from pretty much the ground up. If it used any kind of virtual machine to run standard windows applications, they would run like garbage. A Cell-based PC with a new specially made google OS would cost a fortune, and reward it's users with super-expensive hardware that had virtually no software options. Congratulations, you've got Apple's old business model.

you didn't understand what i was saying,

Sony,IBM & Toshiba should start producing Cell processors and have google to make an OS for them.

You are talking as if Android is gonna stay on small devices forever. It depends on Google for whichever device they want to make an OS for

Actually, the rest of my statement covered making an OS for the cell arcitechture to run on.

^^ The problem is that he doesn't understand the technical question. There is a lot of wishful thinking in this thread, but very little thinking.
