Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm getting back into games - need advice

I guess I should get crackin' on ODST, too. I'm not a massive Halo fan but I enjoy Bungie's work.

DA:O does certainly start slowly... though I managed to play 55 minutes without really noticing

Hmm, I think I'll start with MW2 then. I really enjoyed the first one so, while I'm sure parts of the game will irritate me, I'll probably enjoy the game overall.

Make a thread (or better, an article) complaining about it afterwards.

Who the hell wouldn't remember YOU?

Some people in this thread can't even remember that Rocketpig asked for only 360 games, and they read that 60 seconds earlier. What makes you think they'd remember a drunken pig that hasn't posted in months?

I'd go for MW2 Pig. It's a very hate it or love it game, so it could potentially hit either of your two needs.

Yeah I done a thread a few days ago saying I was a bit dissapointed with mw2.

Since then I have progressed somewhat and will say it is worth getting if you are a fps guy.

I would reccomend playing it on veteran though or you will get through it fairly quick.

A very scripted game though I have to say.

The special ops part is really good especially in co-op.

Fallout 3 is excellent mind you but expect to spend hours wandering around as I found the game really sucks you in.

A game I am glad I got to play I have to say.

ODST is good as well.

I think I've narrowed it down to Assassin's Creed 2 or Dragon Age. I'm leaving to buy one or the other in a few minutes.

Any opinions? I don't have an interwebz connection right now (and won't for another two weeks) so there's no point in buying a short single-player shooter at this time.

Dragon Age Origins might be a good choice. I remember fondly your tirades against modern WRPGs, and I'm curious to see how this one would go down. Suffice to say I've not played the game myself, but I always thought it seemed silly what with how BioWare was hyping it as "mature", yet the maturity appeared to consist of nothing more than an immature propensity towards sex and violence - and I trust you know just how shallow and vapid BioWare's treatment of that particular subject matter has been in the past.

BioWare handles sexuality very well. After all, they had teh lezbians in ME!

I'll definitely put that on my list, though I'm a pretty big BioWare fan. I usually try to ignore their faults and focus on the good parts of their games, which are usually pretty substantial.

Heh, don't get me wrong, I like Mass Effect. I do think, however, that BioWare usually doesn't deliver on their promises of "dynamic relationships and narration". Mass Effect was made out to be a game where your relationship with individual party members was instrumental to the development of the game's narrative. What did we get? One sex scene, the incident with Wrex, and that one choice between what party member to save - none of which had any dynamic content behind them nor any lasting impact on the main plot.

Using that as the selling point of a game... Well, let's hope they've improved.

What I would want from BioWare is a real relationship with a character. Play with the fact that the player is engaged with someone, make it have a real impact on the game, use it for emotional effect, do something with it other than use it for it's own effect. As long as they don't do that, I won't consider it any more than a shallow, if entertaining, gimmick.

I have only played a little bit of DA:O, but it just comes to 1 simple question:

Do you enjoy running along rooftops or going through dungeons?

I have both games and enjoy both of them. The graphics are a bit dated in DAO, but the gameplay is solid - and you'll pull out 50 hours plus. Assassin's Creed II is awesome - and it really depends on you. Either choice and you won't be disappointed.

Of all things, I ended up walking out of the store with Rainbow Six: Vegas for twenty bucks. They were sold out of AC 2 and DA:O. I didn't feel like driving around so I just snagged the cheap shooter and went home. I'll pick up a new fame this weekend.
