They don't expect the company as a whole to be profitable until 2013.

Wow... and people wonder why some say that they could go bankrupt depending on the recession's path.

Unless Sony's talking about a worst case scenario of course.

So it could be 3-D gaming vs. Natal... interesting.

Fixed

Few points worth mentioning -

1. 3D TVs - they already have 3D TVs and Samsung has much better 3D TV's available.

2. There is nothing special with Sony TV's and PS3s that makes them able to run 3D. Samsung TV and Xbox 360 can easily do it as well if they wanted to.

3. Even with these "3D TVs", ps3 will be able to run maybe 5 games in stereoscopic 3d on the PS3. There is no possible way PS3 can run any game in 3D thats not already 60 frames per second. Unless you daisy chain 2 PS3's and have each display its own picture for each eye at 60 frames per second.

4. PS3 has slashed prices more than nintendo or 360 since launch, despite coming out last.

Otherwise, decent update. Best of luck to sony achieving profit by March.

It is quite interesting.

So the PS3 should just have kept its price at $600 and price itself out of this generation.  Good business plan.

Yeah, see I know all this...and then some. They article is pure speculation. It doesn't say how sony did this at CES...

I've owned a 3D TV and Nvidia glasses for 5 months now. I've researched the technology very thoroughly before I purchased it.

This is an old technology, it is no different from what they used 20 years ago...only the HD TV's have caught up to it. there is no magic or mirrors when doing 3D. You need very powerful hardware and a 120hz Tv or you will get a headache.

Not at all...but read the article. States that PS3 finally slashed the price while Nintendo and Xbox already did this. Thile true...PS3 is the biggest  "slasher" of them all. So that point is arguable...

I don't see Sony being complete profitable by March 2010... Maybe by Fall 2010, they will be getting out of the red ink if things remain as they are now. They need to market their games heavily in NA (especially exclusive shooters, and bundle FFXIII) if they have an hope of accomplishing this. I know NA is not the world, but neither is Others, nor Japan. NA represents almost 50% of the gaming market, and they are dead last in this market, they need stronger momentum in NA.

They had a report on this today on the business section of the (CBC) news this morning. They showed some of the execs on stage stroking the big purple orbs on the ends of the wands, it was pretty funny. I also got a kick out of them talking about the "new" products Sony was coming out with, "the new reader, following the footsteps of the recently released (in Canada) Amazon reader.....the new wand controlers following the footsteps of the highly succesful Nintendo Wii motion controllers".
