Forums - Sony Discussion - Blue Ray customers screwed over again!! Must Read!

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/11/blu-ray-discs-get-managed-copy-hardware-support-nonexistent.ars

Blu-ray discs get Managed Copy, hardware support nonexistent. Yet another reason why blue ray is a crock. I personally am sick and tired of this BS now and just wish BR would disappear. Why all the headache when I just want to watch a freakin movie and they keep moving the goal posts!!

This is exactly the reason why I bought a PS3. PS3 Blu-Ray is future proof... It's called firmware updates. :)

yep not too much to waste, only 299

I'm glad we don't have the DMCA (so we can copy our own discs legally)... oh wait, the stupid ACTA treaty our government will sign will impose similar measures on us.

Aren't they able to put fw updates on disc for the players?

"managed copy apparently can't be added with a mere firmware upgrade."

You'll need a new player. Unless Sony says otherwise in an official statement.

It's called being an early adopter. You lose out.

sorry, what does all this mean? what is a managed copy?

@DaBudda and if you read the article this is something that cant be fixed with a firmware update

I read that article on Ars a few days ago, and to be frank it was a poor read. Though it does say that current hardware support is non-existant and can't be added through firmware, at no point does it even reference a source for that accusation. And no other tech site that reported on managed copy even touched this supposed restriction. Ars recently opened the doors for more writers, and to be honest its slipped a little, which more TGDaily style rant articles with no sources referenced.
