Forums - PC Discussion - I never realized online console gaming was so bad...

Whilst you're right in terms of online, it is behind in terms of dedicated servers and in terms of the mod community, console gaming offers other advantages (e.g. local MP). Also, console gaming online is pretty simple to get into for most.

Lol, I just realised I'm defending consoles in this thread and PCs in the MW2. I have to say though, console only gamers seem more ignorant of the benfits of PC gaming than the other way round.

I never had anything bad to say on ps3 online play (I used to play warcraft 3 mainly dota online a lot as well as CS ocasionally and a half life 2 online steam game thing so MW2 may be game but console online play is good )

yes i agree i love local multiplayer and think its the best thing ever in video games.  My favorite memories of video gaming are not when i'm in a room alone.  Hell even playing computer games online like diablo 2 are much more fun if the guys your playing with are in teh same room with you.

but it seems most people now a days think and hate this local multiplare or co-op games.  Everyone is like who cares if it don't have local multiplayer i just want online gaming.  There have been a few games i was all pumped for an looked really cool, but then i heard no local multiplayer so went completley out of my mind, never thoguht of that game again.  Can't even remember them all now to make a list, just one of more recent ones woudl have ot be THE CONDUIT.  Was all pumped thinking could be the next perfect dark (64 version) or golden eye, but nope they cut it, so i did the same, i cut the game from my budget.

And COD4 modern warfare, was a great game, but played halo 3 over it anyday, and woudl recommend halo 3 over it anyday to anyone.  The reason, you can have friends play on your system online with you.  If I wanted to play online in cod4 only I could play, no one else, they had to get their own system and be on their own tv.  they couldn't join in on my system.  (though i did hate how halo, only the paying account could talk with headset, the friends brought along couldn't)  But still a billion times better being able to bring htem along.

I am really starting to hate the industry, between its fanboy journalists, cutting of party games (local multiplayer), and its "were hardcore" attitude, it is really annoying.

@ irstupid

I totally agree. One of the things I loved about console gaming is the ease of local MP. I have fond memories of Goldeneye and Quake II on N64 round my mate's house and having multi-tap parties on PS1 & 2 with games like Timespliters. Unfortunately that seems to have been forgotten in this gen. I hate that Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 has no local MP. And the CoD4 thing is annoying (although I have it on PC so this isn't an issue for me). Maybe they fixed it on MW2?

I think it depends on the game. Sony leave it up to the devs to decide how to set it up. Doesn't Resistance 2 have dedicated servers?

no offence but i find console online so much simpler....all you have to do in general (like cod4) is search for game and thats it....you dont have to choose a server and mess aorund looking at its ping or anything

Umm... selecting a server is about as difficult as changing the channel on TV.

yeah thats facking hard!!!

You people are delusional with how hard PC gaming is to set up..

Its not hard at all....when PSN or xbox needs to update it tells you. You update, you play.. When PC needs to update, it tells you, you update, you play.

The problem is some of you have many PC's that can't play these games so you knock it. If you have 400 dollars and are willing to shell build the computer yourself....which is very easy actually, You can make a system with better graphics then any console. Once its up and running and you get through that initial "get drivers stage" thats pretty much it. You can go the extra step and mod games, which is completely recommended. Your getting user created DLC which can rival Premium DLC and many times is even BETTER then premium and it's free!

I think the problem is all these people bashing PC gaming are running off their own computer experience....which wasn't built for gaming.

Many people don't even know what the dedicated servers are and why it's a big deal. They're use to the xbox live and psn set up of click GAME! Dedicated servers for those of you who don't know yet, get rid of a lot of lag, are hosts of many game mods which completely add new content to some games.

I run consoles and PC....look at the sig......seriously PC is not hard at all to manage if you think it is then you learn how to do something other then download pronz and use a forum site.

The installing of games is nothing but clicking the Next button, I agree, please put serial key here.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

If you can set up your own PC, it can cost you the same as console and play the same games at the same quality. I was building PCs for friends couple years ago and we never had trouble playing the newest games on decent settings. You are also forgetting that you can overclock PCs, or swap only one item in order to make it more powerfull. Setting up your PC, downloading drivers, it's been so dumbed down over the past few years, that even retard could do it. Try fixing yourself drivers on old Voodoo GFX card and running them under Win 9x, I dare you.

One of the games that I play on PSN is Killzone 2, because it has dedicated servers, while the choice of options is still lacking compared to 10 years old PC games, it's a king on the console field. And I hate match making, the person that come up with such idea should've been executed on the spot. Worst way to gimp any decent multiplayer experience. Long search for host (instant connecting with dedicated server), lags (no lags with dedicated server), host migration (do I have to?...). And these are affecting the experience for everyone, if you can't see it, than its because you're used to it. However if you were a PC gamer, you'd know the difference the second you've seen it.

IMO (the truth)
