Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Online in NSMB Wii is not needed, and wouldn't work anyway.

critics have been ratting on nsmb wii for not having online, but they don't even realize why it isn't needed or why it wouldn't work.

it's not needed because it would hurt the local social aspect of it. why waste time rounding up people and setting up an appoitement when you can just get on and play with random people? this would hurt the games sells, since word of mouth would be cut down, and people would be less likely to try it for themselfs at a friends house. the owners of the game would  lay online againsts other people who also own the game, and that would slow down the games legs.

online multiplayer would not work in this type of game because the griefing in this game would be unbearable. there would be competitive players playig a game where you have to coordinate and work together to get through levels, and this would piss players off and might make them sell the game back.

when miyamoto said that the wii could not handle nsmb wii online, few people even understood what he was talking about. he was talking about the lag. mario platformers are very fast paced games with presise junping and planning, and the lag would completely ruin it. just look at brawl folks. it's also a game that needs extreamely low ping times. online works in mario kart wii because you are not constantly interacting with other players. if there is lag in mario kart wii, people can still have fun because it doesn't detract too much from the gameplay. if theres any lag at all in brawl, you'll end up with pissed off players, because it ruins the gameplay and completely changes the game. around the release brawl, people were talking about how you had to have a different play style in online then offline because of the lag. online in brawl does not work, and it would be the same way with nsmb wii.

hopefully you people now realize how online in this game does not make any since.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

I don't see how online multiplayer would hinder local multiplayer much at all. I suppose some people might not go the extra mile to get together, but most gamers seem to agree that they'd rather play local multiplayer than online multiplayer. Online is just a good substitute when friends aren't available locally.

It's true that Brawl had lousy online... except with friends, which are pretty much the only people that you'd want to be playing NSMBW with. Then there are games like TMNT Smash-Up and TvC that are said to have even better online functionality. And if they can make fighting games work over an internet connection, I don't see how lag could possibly cripple a platformer.

Agree but:"hurt the game sales"??I thought it would increase them...no?

Eh, online multiplayer is one of the new standards of this generation. A game like this would only have benefited from this standard feature.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I agree nobody is saying that game sucks because it doesn't have online, but wouldn't be nice to have more options.

I still wish it had online, I'd be able to play multiplayer with my friends then. Online could work, it wouldn't be as fun but it could still work, especially with friends you actually know.

Oh well, maybe the next 2D Console Mario game whenever that will come out.

Even if it had online people would just say "where's wiispeak???" and if it had wiispeak they'd say "but we want a headset", and if it came with a headset they'd say "but friendcodes!", and if no friend codes they'd say "but it's not HD". You get my drift.

Little Big Planet has 4 player local co-op, 4 player online, and a variation of 2 local/2 online or 3 local/1 online.

It can be done, and does not take away from anything, infact it makes it better, because when you have people that can play with you, then bam your all having fun, you wanna play with people while your at home alone, then it can be done as well, either way it's a win-win situation.

The fact that NSMB Wii doesn't do it despite Little big planet doing it a year ago is laughable, and this is the reason reviews are critiquing it, because it's been done before and it's proven to work so the lack of it is just Nintendo dropping the ball yet again with online.

It doesn't matter because the game will sell gang busters regardless, pitty though because Nintendo could have done so much more...and to be honest the game should of only got a 6 or 7 out of 10, not 8.9, but that's just my own opinion.

my 2 cents.

Warhawk on PS3 has 4 player splitscreen online in matches up to 32 players with intense gun battles, jeep hopping, fighter-plane popping action....tops it all lol. ...So NSMB Wii online CAN be done.

.....But im glad it didnt. Starting to miss the local offline gameplays where friends and siblings would play together in the same room.
