Forums - Gaming Discussion - Was it worth going multiplat? Tekken 6

I do not think the main cause of the disappointing sales so far is that this game went multiplatform.

It is the timing. If Tekken 6 was released a year or two earlier, it would have less competition and probably done much better if not well.

Unfortunately, expectations have raised quite a bit due to Street Fighter 4 and Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. It also does not help that both of these titles were released this year and have sequels/expansions already lined up.

Perhaps Tekken 6 would have done better if Namco polished the system or added extra incentives but it looks like they did not. How are you supposed to impress or attract reviewers and potential buyers like this?

It was originally pegged for a 2007 release....wonder why it got shelved for so long? Maybe they should've switched roles and let the PS3 version come out first, then the 360 version come out a year later. But no, just like with every former PS exclusive, they get pushed back so they are released day and date

I think most people just don't give a shit anymore. Tekken isn't a big name still, while SF4 sold huge earlier in the year. Maybe you could say that kind of screwed it over, I don't know. But the awful advertising had to help

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Tekken 6 has to compete against Modern Warfare 2, Bayonetta, and maybe even Final Fantasy XIII.

That is a pretty big disadvantage as well.

They should have kept it exclusive and released it 18 months ago.

They should have released it two months before Soulcalibur IV? That doesn't seem all that smart.

Maybe.... I dunno. It could have been hyped as a PS3 exclusive and released as a better game earlier. Maybe Namco would have benefited from it. We first have to see the legs of the game. If the 360 version can do 500-600k at full price then IMO it was a financially good decision

Still seeing current trends, the fighting genre is slowing down a LOT...

It would've been no better. If it was exclusively on the PS3 you would've only seen a graphics boost, but thats about it.

I know I'll get labeled an ignorant video game n00b for saying this, but I'm glad they released it on the 360. I'm a huge tekken fan but I don't own a PS3 so if it was an exclusive I wouldn't have been able to play it. Which would've sucked because it's a fun game.

Do you guys think the same fate will await FFXIII? Both Playstation brand exclusives, Playstation 3 exclusive announced, multi-platform announced later on in development. I do seriously think FFXIII may have trouble right now, this game will need to blow everyone away to sell - Tekken didn't, and Tekken seems more tailored for 360's audience.
