Forums - Gaming Discussion - Was it worth going multiplat? Tekken 6

I remember a lot of playstation fans being pissed when tekken went multiplatform. Do you think it was worth it to make the game on both systems? It doesn't appear to be selling that well on the 360 at all. I can't help but to wonder if the game would have some of the issuse(like loading times, online lag) if was made for only one system. Ps3 or 360.

Tekken 6 needed to go multi-platform so more Tekken fans could well buy Tekken 5 for the third time. Tekken 5 launched back in 2005. Not all PS2 owners bought a PS3 this generation a lot of them have bought 360s or Wiis. Anyway Namco want to sell as many copies as possible to the video gaming community. Selling Tekken 6 on a user base of almost 60 million systems combined PS3 and X360 is a lot better than selling it on a user base of 26 million = PS3 only.

Was it worth buying Tekken 6? Considering the critics regard it as the third version of Tekken 5. Tekken 5, Tekken 5:DR and now Tekken 6:BR. The costumes of the characters in Tekken 6:BR look very similar to Tekken 5:DR. The graphics in Tekken 6:BR look worse than Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur IV. The gameplay in Tekken 6 may well be the same trusty reliable Tekken style fighting. The online component of Tekken 6 has been a disaster.

i dont think it would have sold that much better if it stayed exclusive. First off this game has been out in the arcade for awhile now and should have been released on the conssoles a lot earlier. Plus fighters have been on a decline this gen and i dont think many pppl are gonna cough up $60 for a game they can beat in a day

Maybe.... I dunno. It could have been hyped as a PS3 exclusive and released as a better game earlier. Maybe Namco would have benefited from it. We first have to see the legs of the game. If the 360 version can do 500-600k at full price then IMO it was a financially good decision

Still seeing current trends, the fighting genre is slowing down a LOT...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

They made it multiplat because they saw the success of other fighting games on 360.

very difficult to say
I m guessing it would not have changed too much
exclusive = more hype = more sales

Launch Tekken 6 hype : - 3000

Time to Work !

Tekken 6 may sell 2 to 3 million ltd sales on PS3.
Tekken 6 sells 1 million ltd sales on X360 would be icing on the cake.
Porting a game is very cheap and cost effective and is used to offset development costs. Game companies can not afford to be loyal in this day and age to anyone. Profits $$$ >> Loyalty.

ya really if loyalty came before profits ps3 would have dominated lol imagine GTAIV exclusive and all of those other games that shud have been exclusive for ps3

i've turned my back on tk6 as a ps3 fan, im more sure of not buying this game at all
tk6 was one of two games(ff13 the other) that was boasted as a ps3 exclusive
tekken 6 is a complete let down, the series is now at a spiral downward position
the graphics are outdated which is a big disappointment as tekken games always out perform all games on the market in terms of visual for about a year after

proves how namco have not been working at all, studying profit had a serious effect on the game, it also caused them to loose a loyal fan....

the only namco game that still interests me is ace combat

According to the most recent game in the series, Tekken has always thrived on sony consoles (psp/psn).  I personally did not pick it up once it lost exclusivity, this is due to the port being "hampered" by making it equal on both platforms.  I would rather have a game maxed out for one platform, then dumbed down to fit on two.  So I believe it "hurt" the sales of the series; contrary to populer belief most of the ps2 crowd has two consoles this gen (ps3/wii or ps3/360).  I do not believe that crowd just decided to not partake of the ps3 experience this generation, that makes no sense especially seeing most have a ton of games for the ps2 that are still compatible on about 3/4 of the current consoles being used by the ps3 market share.  My brother and like 10 of my cousins opted to not pick up tekken this time (we all have dark resurection from the psn though).  So for a game that has only a graphical upgrade of the psn version, I say it is not worth 60 dollars or my time.
