Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is Tekken on its 6th and Soul-Calibur is only on its 4th?

Topic at hand.

I like SCIV and Tekken 6, but i get the feeling Tekken is the more popular between the 2 namco fighters. btw, Seraphim Jin > All.

Well because Tekken is the older franchise (unless you include Soul Blade, and if that's the case it's 5 to 6, not that different). And even inlcuding Soul Blade, Tekken is still two years older.

yah not much to this thread sir

Tekken and Virtual Fighter were the first true 3D fighters (with Virtua Fighter coming first). Games like Soul Blade (which later became Soul Calibur), Dead or Alive and Bushido Blade and etc. following their model.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

This. Also, Tekken is the most complete fighter with multiple with the most and most accurate fighting styles. It's beautiful.

Tekken IS more popular than SC4, and is Tekken is also older too....?

I think both are about even is regards to popularity nowadays. It doesn't seem like one has a huge sales advantage over the other. Basically, Tekken was the first game of many to follow Virtua Fighter out of the gate. Soul Blade just didn't light things up the way Tekken did, so they left the series alone for a few years until they could make Soul Calibur on more powerful hardware. Above everything else, it initially got noticed because it was the shining example of 6th generation graphics right at launch. You usually don't get something so damn impressive looking right at the beginning of a generation. It was the equivalent of having Gears of War as a launch title for the 360.

Edit: Correction. I just checked the sales. It seems Tekken is now slightly less popular overall than Soulcalibur.

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

dystopia is 100% right. Tekken is on older IP but is only up by one title.

This hand of mine is burning red. It's loud cry is telling me to grasp victory.....SEKIHA TENKYOKEN!!!

I would say Soul Calibur is the more popular fighter now, in it's hayday on the PS1 Tekken was great, but since then it hasn't advanced as much as fighters like SC.

Wow wait what?! SC is more popular then tekken!? no way... im see'n way more Tekken 6 Advertisements then i did SoulCalibur IV ones, i love soulcalibur more overall since SC2 but only now i like tekken because of 6 because they have more original characters and new ones overall for this game VS SCIV's only new character hild'Gard.
