Though I believe you this time... but isnt this the same contact that told you all about those 360 relaunch crap and made it out to be huge?

Walmart knows that you might end up spending $200 with that $100 giftcard, because you figure you're saving money...lol.

Silly humans abstinence is the only assured method to keep you safe from spending.

walmart is not going to take that type of loss, microsoft is taking care of them one way or another, guaranted, think about it 100 loss on each sale, walmart could care less about ms sales, ms is the one looking to raise there sales , just like the 1 million banned from xbl, they dont have evidence they were all even online. ms will do anything to get there sales up, bottom line

I am happy to hear this. Now we can put all the talk about MS being desperate to the table.

Seems to me the salient point here is that this offer would only be made with a console that was going to have a lot of surplus units sitting around this holiday that would not have otherwise sold.  So the offer moves them and gets people in the door, etc.  This is why the good luck of the Wal-Mart offer accrued to MS.

We've heard that Sony was producing slims for holiday sale at about double the rate of holiday sales of last year.  So the question is whether they will have surplus units at all.  My guess is that, with the new price, model, and advertising, along with FFXIII in Japan, they will not have many surplus units.

Then why did Amazon offer it as well??? Isnt the 360 up YOY?? Walmart did this on their own. I wouldnt be surprised if more stores do this on black friday

Amazon did it to match Wal-Mart and get customers in their door.  Again, with a product that had surplus units to burn.  Yeah, wal-mart did it on their own...I didn't say otherwise.

For any product that will sell through all its units anyway, we probably won't see huge discounts on that product on Black Friday.  So I agree with you that 360's will be the target of discounts.  PS3s may not be to the same degree, because I think PS3s will end up selling through all the units produced for the holiday season without the discounts.

Then how come last holidays the PS3 barely got discounts when it was doing so poorly in the holidays and yet the 360 got the most discounts??

Basically Walmart had too many arcades and wanted to clear some stock.
