Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does anyone feel like gaming has passed them by?

Agree, gaming is going downhill with all this FPS crap ... i miss the days when people played REAL games with a good story

I blame microsoft and the xbox ... ever since the 360 came out, everyone is obsessed with FPS's ...

M$ RUINED GAMING!

Sega For Life - Gaming Died When Sega Died ... Sega <3

The nintendo before - ' wii release ' <3
Sega before ' Software Only ' <3

Anti M$ (Therefore anti 360) - im making it official ... Go play your meaningless FPS Games ...

inb4 'some of those aren't actualy genres' I am aware of this.

Edit: I actually had a conclusion to make. You own a PS3 and a 360, but not a Wii, and have the nerve to lament about a lack of platformers? This is your own fault, don't try to blame it on others

Edit2: You don't own a DS and are complaining about a lack of RPG's, again, your fault, no-one elses

Sony have published Resistance, Resistance 2 and KillZone 2.

M$ have published Halo 3, Perfect Dark and Halo ODST.

Nintendo have published 0 FPS this gen.

So its safe to say that is just a 3rd party phase that will pass like every other genres. What bother me is that Sony is publishing more and more FPS then JRPGs this gen. I would like to see Sony go back to a diverse library.

Links Crossbow Training and Disaster Day of Crisis have rail shooter parts, not sure if you want to count that.

How about Metroid Prime 3 and Trilogy?

You go around in first person and shoot stuff, do you not?

Like i said i dont mind shooters but out of the shooters fps are the ones are dislike the most.

I dont mind playing them but not constantly. I used to love golden eye because i could play 4 player split screen with all my bro's and have a laugh. I dont mind online but that instead of local multiplayer just drives me mad.

I aint saying that the is no games to play that are not shooters. I am just saying it is getting harder and harder to find them.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

You know... I know you hate the wii and stuff...

but if your really that upset about lack of platformers and other not shooter games... You really should look into one.

Or at the very least get a lot of downloadble games.

Truth is... do to the massive expense of HD games and how hard it is to make a hit.  They need to focus on the genres that are more likely to produce hits.

Shooters are here to stay. I love any game that involves high level animated violence, death and has lots of guns in them. The other gaming genres are very stale and not as popular as they used to be. Shooter games are king.

A lot of people like instant gratification. You can pop in a shooter play a few rounds of online play and be satisfied if you don’t have much time. You can also hang out with a bunch of friends laugh play the shooters together all night long. Its hard to beat that for a lot of people. What other types of games let you do that? Certainly not a story driven game.

Bingo.

"porn game" is the way

Time to Work !

I remember the best time for gaming being between late SNES era (FFVI, Chrono Trigger, ISSD) and the PS1 era. PS1 had so many awesome games in its first iteration, you just couldn't stop of finding something new, original or better done than before. Tekken, Gran Turismo, Parappa the rapper, Bust a Move, FFVII, FFT, MGS, Driver, Wipeout, Castlevania Sotn, Resident Evil...

In this generation, the lack of new awesome things is palpable. Sure, I like nice graphics, but beyond that, you generally have no great advances. I could mention some improvements like better storytelling (wich wasn't that hard, because it's been historically awful in most cases), but for the most part the tendency has been to implement more and more ways to make the games easier (checkpoints, regeneration, vitachambers, etc); too much focus in online elements, wich for some is great, but I really enjoy more SP expereriences; and in general technical elements that do nothing to make the games more original in some way.

Please, understand that I'm not saying that this generation's games are bad, at all. The fun factor has been great, no doubt. But I miss the shock factor.
