Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does anyone feel like gaming has passed them by?

It makes me feel old to say it, but yeah, I feel like gaming has passed me by...I relish the days where the RPG's weren't so enormously complicated (weapons' systems, leveling systems, yadda, yadda, yadda), where shooters were just so omnipresent (I have nothing against them, but when I can't even last two minutes playing against a four-year old - true story), it does kind of turn me off of them. I'm obviously not a 'hard-core' gamer....I probably once would have been considered it, but not now. Does it upset me? Nah....there are still plenty of games that get released that I enjoy, so it's really not a big deal to me...

Bah!

I've played video games for 33 years now and I feel like people are being sold and buying the same games over and over and over again, albeit with the game set in a different place and with a different name or by adding a number after it.
So very little impresses me in gaming these days as very very little is original.
Having said that I still find a few new games each year that still keeps my interest in gaming and am looking forward to the New Super Mario Brothes Wii.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in this post.

@OP

I get that feeling too sometimes, but for me specifically I am a sucker for a good story driven campaign and local co-op which is falling pretty fast.

I literally have to hunt for these types of games

Last console 2D mario was almost two decades ago

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Oh so it's just over again rather than over and over and over again. Now I understand.

I feel the same way, which is why I chose to stay off of the home consoles and stick to the PSP which remains more like the PS1 and PS2 in terms of games.

My favorite Genre is SRPGs.

So no, i'm used to not being the primary focus of the industry.

Yes there have been other 2D side scrolling Marios but as it has already been pointed out the last one was many years ago and on a completely different console.

The first COD was released in 2003, how many subsequent sequels have been released since, the same goes for other franchises, they churn the same game out repeatedly.

I guess I and others that grew up during the first few generation of video games were very lucky as we got to feel the excitement of playing completely new games with exciting new ideas and styles of play.

These days all there is to get excited about is playing exactly the same game as you did a year ago with a slight name change or the number after it increased by 1.

There are a lot of non shooters and a lot of RPGs (just not Japanese ones and wait till after FF XIII for those to start rolling into the HD consoles).

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

SE should remake FF Tactics in HD with online multiplayer, how amazing would that be? As an XBLA and PSN game I mean, 10$.

@ Serious. I seriously think you should spend some more time in the Xbox Arcade/community games zone of your Xbox 360.
