Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie says No to WiiHD!

^Ok, explain why this would be a smart idea

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

@68soul
Nice compilation, fun to read

@xoj
You have a point, Zelda might be the next console's launch title, like Twilight Princess was for Wii/GC, but if its not, then what will be the launch title for Wii2? Super Mario out this year, Galaxy next year, Zelda possibly end of 2010 or 2011, Metroid in 2010. Theres not a lot left for a new console in 2011. Wii Sports title only?

Ya dude, like most of the peeps here already guessed that 2010 is too early for the next Wii.

I was one of those guys. I think the next Wii is coming in Christmas 2011. Of course Nintendo isn't going to be launching their next Wii next year, it would be a year early and Nintendo always releases their consoles every 5 years! But its funny to see Reggie crushing Patchers dreams like that, then again Patcher has been predicting WiiHD for years now. Sooner or later he'll be right!

No he will never be right as it will not be called Wii HD it will be called something ells all together :P

Well we all know its not going to be called WiiHD. But its going to be an HD successor to the Nintendo Wii. I don't think Nintendo would launch its next platform next year. However actually Patcher has been predicting a WiiHD the last few years, he wasn't refering to an all new console I don't think. So I guess he will never be right. However I do think we can expect the successor to the Wii to be HD and come out in 2011!

I'm glad Reggie finally stuck it to Patcher, No their is no Wii HD coming out next year! He also mentions Vitality sensor and says he hasn't seen the software yet. If Reggie hasn't seen the software who has? Guess Nintendo of Japan is keeping that close to their chest.

Did anyone really expect them to release a WiiHD already? i mean really people

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

I know I didn't but apparently big analysts like Patcher seem to think Nintendo has money to waste. Why fix something that isn't broken? The Wii is still selling alright and the five year life cycle is still two years away so why would Nintendo launch a WiiHD now?

This's probably the worst time period for a WiiHD (or whatever the Wii sucessor name is) announcement. It's just simple bussnies logic.

Why would 2011 be any better, Wii will probably still be in first place, and still selling well, so why would 2011 be the right year?

Because 2011 is the end of Nintendo's five year life cycles. Just because something is selling doesn't mean you milk it till its dead. Look at the N64 it got launched five years after the SNES. The SNES was still selling strong and numerous big Nintendo titles were still launching even after the N64 launched.

Fact is you don't want to milk your cow to death, if Wii is too survive 10-years like the PlayStation and PlayStation2 did then the next generation needs to start before the prior console is dead. Think about it a second, Nintendo launches the next console and cuts the Wii's price to 150$ The Wii will continue to sell well and if the next Nintendo console is backwards compatable then Nintendo can keep releasing software for the Wii for along time to come.

Fact is Christmas 2011 is the end of the typical 5 year life cycle Nintendo is known for. Releasing the next platform later then that would be a gamble, you want to leave a generation successful not kill it then launch the next system! I'm am 100% positive that Nintendo will announce its next system during E3 2011.

Also keep in mind the competition, Microsoft has already let it slip a couple times that the next X-Box is under way. Infact I remember hearing in an interview that Natal would be bundled with every X-Box. The guy being interviewed never said 360 he said every X-Box. Nintendo has also been talking about the next generation for awhile now, saying it will be HD and some other small facts.

If Microsoft and Nintendo are already slipping tidbits about their next platforms, what is the likelyhood that we will see the next Nintendo/Microsoft platform come any later then the typical five year life cycle?

Five year cycles, what are you talking about?  The NES was out for seven years before the SNES came along, and the SNES was second to market after the genesis

The NES was also Nintendo's first console, they released it in North America three years late, You can hardly use that as a break in the pattern. Also just because the SNES was second to market doesn't mean Nintendo is always second to market and who said if they release in Christmas 2011 that they will be first to market? Microsoft has been hinting at the next X-Box for a while now. Chances are we could see the next X-box as early as Christmas 2010. Meaning Nintendo would have to have a new system to compete!

By the way, this is like the 10th time I've argued this with you. Its becoming a tradition!
