Forums - Sales Discussion - What would you of changed if you where kutaragi?

ok apart from the obvious and check myself into a psych ward before i left the milky way.......... But sony have always been about pushing the technology envelope, look back to the ps1 era and sega had to throw in a 3d processor right at the end with the saturn because they had no idea that sony where ready to go 3d. I think that sony thought they knew the consumer just as well as nintendo thought they knew the consumer and both have really tried something unique and both should be praised for at least not staying stagnant and going down the tried and tested path of previous generations. anyways just my 2 bob and wanted to praise both companys for at least looking outside the box

If I was Ken Kutaragi I would have liked to get more RAM with 256bit connections, had a better GPU, a 4x Blu Ray drive, and have been able to ship every console with an HDIP cam (ala Eye3). I believe Sony was forced in the game before they wanted to by MS, If PS3 would have been able to come out at the end of this year it would have been better for everyone. If I was Myamota I would have liked to have the console HD ready from launch. I would also have liked to have a HDD to store more games on. Other than that I am really happy with my console. If I'm Bill Gates I just wish I was cooler because, if I was the coolest person in the world people would buy my console no matter what. I wish we could have got Halo out with the launch of PS3, and I wish I had blu ray but Sony already had that and they ain't cool. If I was KBG29 I would wish that all the consoles could have came out at the end of this year. I would like to see games only made as exclusives to each console as to take full advantag of their hardware.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

KBG29 on PSN&XBL

It's spelled Miyamoto ... The biggest mistake that Sony made was they included Blu-Ray. Much like Nintendo with the N64, Sony choose a format which they thought would be important for gaming in the generation and ignored all risks associated with it. Besides that I would have focused on 720p and 1080i, made wireless standard, only had 2 USB ports and eliminated the flash drives ... If I was Nintendo, I probably would have boosted performance slightly (approximately twice as powerful) and had the net libraries ready for third parties at launch ... On top of that I would use the Miis as an opportunity to release a new simple game every month through the virtual console or a collection for $20 every few months ... If I was Microsoft I would have given as much money as it took to get Namco-Bandai, Capacom and Konami to both publish several exclusive games and aid in the marketing of the XBox in Japan.

The only mistake Sony made is that they broke their promises and lied more than a few times. So if I was the big guy, I'd keep my mouth shut when necessary. But I think that all of that happened because Kutaragi simply wasn't connected to the world when he made those promises.. he was high on something. Going around declaring his console as the winner and stuff... Sony is still made of people working their a**es off. You can't go around making promises for them. I have no idea what Bill Gates has to do because I don't care about the 360.. However, I do know that besides the wire-less controller and updated graphics, the 360 is actually an old gen console. So I would say, make something worth buying it. Relying on games alone is kinda stupid, and you see the results with the monthly sales.. When gears came out there was a huge spike in the chart but next month was pretty standard. Why do you think the PS3 sells with no games?? Because Blu-ray currently rules the market and BR movies are being sold 3:1. Why do you think the Wii sells? Because it's a party console and it has the Wiimote as a selling gimmick. Gears of War was a system seller.. you need more of these! And the fact that PS3 has all that stuff inside it AND good games coming isn't gonna make it any easier for you, Mr. Gates. Nintendo should have really boosted their console cause with these specs, it's gonna fly off in 2 years... Unless they make really good killer apps and make new gimmicks (like the Wiimote). So it's basically the same story as MS. It's gonna be really hard to rely on games alone when you have a multimedia system that really picks up speed with it's new disc format.

Planning on getting a PS3 sometime in July-August.

Sony added Br to kill hddvd and get royalties when Br becomes the format of choice. Also the addition of BR will help in the long life f the PS3. PS3 will be the only console with Br playback capability, as prices come down and Br becomes more popular this will be a huge reason consumers choose PS3 over the others.

What happens when stand alone bluray players hit the sub $200 mark? Then you could get a Wii or 360, plus bluray from the price difference compared to PS3. Even if Sony dropped the price to slightly less than a $200 difference, say a $150, then consumers would be faced with picking up a console for the games, or a system with the Blu for just a little less than what a combined 360/bluray purchase would cost. Bluray was included in the PS3 for the wrong reasons(read, not for gaming), and it's removal would help the price immensely. Just as someone else in this post said, I think Sony was expecting a 2007 launch and got caught with their pants down by the 360. Thus they rushed the system through development and production more than they would have liked or should have. I think had the system been given a bit more development time and a later launch that we would have seen a considerably lower price, say 400, a more solidified online strategy and far fewer production issues at launch.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

"Bluray was included in the PS3 for the wrong reasons(read, not for gaming), and it's removal would help the price immensely." In case you didn't know, PS3 games come out on Blu-ray discs, and it's not gonna be long before developers start using the extra 10-20 (single layer 25 gigs, double layer 50 gigs) over the HD-DVD (single layer 15 gigs, double layer 30 gigs). Those extra 10-20 gigs will give you lower loading times, faster graphics, distant drawing and overall better graphics. They might even be used to give the PS3 players extra content if we speak about multi-plat titles. And with the momentum BR has built up against HD-DVD, the PS3 might (freaking WILL) actually benefit from the BR drive inside greatly. Oh, and in order to read HD-DVD with your 360 you need to buy an external HD-DVD drive that costs 200$ so that brings the price up to 600$ which is the same price of a PS3 with a BRP inside..

other then PS3 price droping along them ,nothing... just like when dvd players were half the price of a ps2. Technology goes down in price with time, of course PS3 would have cost less a year later.

Things like what? Truth? He won't prove me wrong, cause there's nothing TO prove me wrong. These are all just assumptions of what could be done with the extra 10-20 gigs.. and they are very plausible. Actually, I proved HIM wrong when he said "They put the BRD for the wrong reasons". What else could he prove me wrong? That the 360 doesn't have an external HD-DVD drive available for 200$ which brings the price up to 600$, which is the same price as the PS3? I don't think you can deny that.

Yes, they can deny your assumption and probably they will. Actually these guys just have to be against you no matter what. Your arguments don't count. It's because of your avatar. Try Mario or Link and everything will be easier This is a flavor of this forum (unfortunately).
