Forums - Gaming Discussion - Switching Games is too Time Consuming

Personally I play an Xbox 360 all the time, and as a result, I find myself playing single games for hours on end. Sometimes I bounce between XBLA games, but any disc game generally warrants a good sit down session... spent 8 hrs on dragon age alone today. C-R-A-C-K

ive noticed that too. I play a game for a longer time before changing games, and oftentimes ill think about playing a game but then don't because it will interrupt.

EDIT: It's one of the reasons that I'm a firm believer in DD and installing games.

Wow, I thought I was more clear on what I was talking about. At least some of you understood.

It's not about the effort it takes, it's about the time it takes.

Say if I want to play one race In Mario Kart, I don't want to spend so much time waiting for whatever disk is in there to eject, putting Mario Kart in, waiting for it to let me hit start. Then letting the game load. To get in and do what you want to do can take a few minutes, and if you're only going to be playing for a few minutes it just doesn't feel like it's worth it.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

errr load times at the begining of games are pretty long and often not skipable.

I agree with him that I tend to play what I have in the console rather than change.

(don't mistake for in game disc swapping... that really only takes 30 secs).

I somewhat agree. It takes far too long to actually start playing a game these days...

Play Uncharted 2 once a day for a year. Takes maybe 2 minutes from start to playing. That's 730 minutes over a year. 12 hours of life lost that could be used for something more productive.

oh the joys of physical media, my days are gone with that bucket of lard, have everything on hard drives now much more convienient

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

well it's true that to play gears (which has a fairly long initial load), I start the game while doing something else and come back to it afterwards... sometimes I just forget I turned it on ^^

Yes, I hate it too. I also hate to boot up my PC cos it takes a whole minute. And changing grafix settings in PC games sux cos u often have to restart the game.
