Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Hands ON : FF:TCB, NMH:DS, RE:TDC...

Son I had time to spent some hours to the Micromania Games Show 09, held in Paris this week. I had the chance to put my greedy nerdy fingers on some upcoming Wii games.

- Monster hunter Tri

I have already played this awesome game, so nothing was new to me, but this time, 4 Wii were connected and you could play the demo with 3 other players. I don't know if it was LAN (probably) or via a rumoured free on line, but playing a 4 p MH3 was very easier than the on player demo. Somehow, there was three level available, al three with a different monster, and we were sent to the harder one. This time, it was Monster Hunted rather than Monster Hunter, cause we ran to the monster and got slain... Water levels are awesome.

- Final Fantasy : The Crystal Bearer

The level I played was a forest where monsters where dwelling (ofc). You move with the stick, pressing c centers camera and Z brings you first person view ala Zelda:TP. Move camera with the left and right of the dpad. Then, I struggled with the battle system : With the wiimote, you move an on screen cursor. When targeting a monster, rock, or whatever item, it higlights, and you can use the power of the crystal to wield it, and then send it to other monster. Rocks sent to monster deals huge damage while mushrooms seems to poison them. I struggled a bit with the control to do so : You have to target the rock, then press B (once). Then, a little of waggle to hoover the rock onto one's head (the power of the crystal). Then, you have to target a monster with the cursor. Another pression on B will send the rock to the foes. It is quite challenging, and I died quite often.

- No More Heroes : Desperate Struggle

I was sent in a stage typical of NMH, i mean, not in the town but in the first boss house. I first had to deal with lots of basic grunt. Controls have been changed slightly, since when you wield the saber, A is used for kicks and B for the saber. With the d pad, dodge in every direction. This time, slashing through enemies for the finish let the foes cut in half on the ground, there's no more explosion of blood, even if the game is very bloody ^^. After a few fights, The boss arrives. He is a black ganger, wielding a huge tape recorder. The boss use the tape recorder to adapt to its arm as two rocket launcher. So you have to get in close range while the boss sends rocket after rockets to you. And it's quite painful, when you don't dodge. So I died pathetically...

- Resident Evil : The Darkside Chronicle

I had already played the demo , and enjoyed it a lot, but this time, Operation Javier was available. In a burst of nerdrage, I jumped on this one and selected Krauser \o/. In this opus, you are in a village in the middle of a swamp, and apart zombies, BOW frogs or pirhanas are jumping to you. There's a equipement menu where you can manage your herbs and your weapon. As I was playing with the wii zapper (I hate that hing), the stick was used to change weapon, so you can choose between four. You can get more than 4 weapon, but you have to map the guns you want through this very nice equipment panel. (+) button is the 'use herb' button,  a nice improvement over the first RE:UC. I found Headshots a bit easier to perform, this time, the headshot zombies don't fall back, but you can see their half head still bursting blood. Mmmh, nice ! You can shoot absolutely everything, and lots of things are hidden in crates or bags. I picked up money, so I think it's a hint to the unlockable and upgradable guns. After a few roaming, I found the first boss. Being a huge n00b, I had used all my special weapons on useless zombies and pirhanas, so I had to deal with them with my poor gun. No problem, I am Krauser, so I ripped the boss to tears and finished the level. Yay !. The boss was beautifully modelised (ofc n they had plenty of models with MH3). Seems there's less instakill moment like in RE:UC. Only complaint I have so far, is that the level was a bit deserted by zombies :/. Shaky cam was not a problem, it just force you to get a better aim ^^.

- Red Steel 2 :

I have already made hands on for this one twice, but I have seen a major graphic improvment. The game is absolutely beautiful, the cell shading is top notch. Ho, I have found that a fence stance was available thanks to the WM+. My big complaint is about the recalibration. After a slashing fest against enemies, I had a problem with the recalibration, the aim was shaky as hell and at the edges of the screen, then it came back to normal. The swordplay is very funny and requires a lot of frantic moves, at last !.

That's great read, thanks a lot. :D

yup great read. Bravo! (je savais pas que micromania faisais un show :p)

just missing one thing: Which ones of these are you getting now that you have a hands on?

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

can you score em please

when will FF:TCB come to EU?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I think I'll get all of them, maybe I'll wait for NMH since I didn't really like the first one. I played also Tatsunoko vs Capcom : Ultimate all stars (Frank West is a blast) and an absolute shitty Soul Eater RPG for Wii that was so craptastic my eye bleeded with pain because of the N64-ranked graphics. But my most anticipated game is Muramasa (only 11 days)

LAN???

On the Wii?

I've tried that with Mario Kart Wii and It didn't work, so I think you should be playing online with the other guys, maybe, don't know if I'm wrong.

Also, the Red Steel 2 swordplay isn't THAT 1:1 don't you agree? I've tried it in France at a show and it didn't felt like I was waving a sword like in Wii Sports Resort.

first may I say, I evy you and how lucky you are.

Now that's out of the way , nice read.

thanks.

I will be getting actually every game you play tested.

Isn't there anyway to deal direct damage instead of using object or enemy? That what I feared wacthing all the gameplay video, no way of attacking enemy directly. I can't shake the feeling it's just going to be like Dawn of Mana all over again, a well made and interesting game with an extremely annoying battle and leveling system.
