Dude, that sucks. If you had a small, thin, object like a knife, you could have pried the tray open to get your disc back. it still doesn't fix your reading issue though.

P.S.: you also could have taken off you faceplate and put a straight wire like a paper clip into the right/middle hole to get the try open. that is where most drives have their emergency release.

Are you getting it repaired for free? If not just make the console rrod so you won't have to pay for repairs.
