I bought the DS because I wanted to play some RPGs. Unfortunately I realize I don't care for DS RPGs.

Hopefully Phantasy Star Zero will be good. That's my last hope at having an enjoyable DS game.

What do you mean? What RPGs do you enjoy? It would seem to me with the DS being a cross between 16 and 32 bit generation in content, it would have the best RPGs for anyone so long as you didn't start playing the genre last generation.

The only 16-bit RPGs I've really enjoyed are Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. My favorite JRPGs on the PS1 were FF7 and Grandia. I'm not the biggest JRPG fan, but I was hoping to find something I genuinely enjoy. Although I did complete Final Fantasy 1 & 2 on my DS. That was fun.

Are you sure you've given a large enough look? There's an awful lot of RPGs on the DS, and so many are very different from one another. I mean based on what you say you've enjoyed in the past, I'd recommend:

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Suikoden: Tierkreis
Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV (If you hadn't played this on the SNES previously)

It's hard to give you recommendations without knowing what you've played already, but I'm very knowledgeable about many of the DS' RPGs so I could give a helping hand if you're still willing to try some out.

I've tried several of the ones you mentioned. They just didn't keep my interest.

Although... I've been playing Lost Odyssey recently. That game is pretty wacky.

1) Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

I've just finished the game a few days ago, and i've enjoyed (nearly) every minute of it: the variety of gameplay involved is simply fantastic, and the game design is the best i've experienced on DS...

2) The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

It could have been my number one, if not for a particular temple (you know)... otherwise, fantastic controls, great use of the double screen, and a very funny adventure all the way...

3) Kirby Canvas Curse

It has been the first DS game that was a huge surprise for me, and showed me how the DS experience could be like nothing else... and i still play it from time to time, great game...

4) Chrono Trigger

I've never played that game back in the days, and thought SE could have released it cheaper on VC... but in the end, i'm glad they did that port: great experience, and totally worth the price...

5) Elebits: the Adventures of Kai and Zero

I could have named a few other (1st party) games in that Top 5, but this is a game full of charm, and one of the most unnoticed good game on DS: lovely graphics, good stylus controls, good use of the double screen... if you find that one in a bargain bin, just go for it, it's really cool...

"A beautiful drawing in 480i will stay beautiful forever...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

1)Phoenix Wright Trilogy
This is the main reason why i suggest everyone to have the DS: 3 games so great that I don't even know why, just that i played everyone of them the triple the time I usually spend daily on games.

2)Mario Kart DS
It was worth my money just for the missions and the single player...then I started playing multiplayer and Wifi, and it was so addicting!

3)GTA Chinatown wars
A late game, but funny for his style, so distant from the other Ds titles. Just a bit short.

4)Zelda:Phantom Hourglass
A long, beautiful and interesting adventure...if it wasn't for the return in the same dungeon for something like 10 times probably this was on the top.

5)Animal Crossing:Wild World
I played this for 5 months, then left it because i found other games...but still, i remember all the days i played it!

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

1) Advance Wars Dual Strike
2) Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass
3) Mario Kart DS
4) Animal Crossing Wild World
5) Nintendogs

Alright, let's see. I'll put only one game per franchise, otherwise it'd be a gigantic list of Phoenix Wright-games.

1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
2. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
3. Jump Ultimate Stars
4. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (preferred this one over the first one, even though they're pretty much the same)
5. Kirby Super Star Ultra

1. The Legend of Zelda - Phamtom Hourglass -.

2. Prince of Persia - The Falling King -

3. CastleVania Down of the Sarrow.

4. Mario Kart DS.

5. Jump Ultimate Stars

1. Shin Megami Tensei : Devil Survivor
2. The Legend of Zelda : Phantom Hourglass
3. Pokemon Platinum
4. Castlevania : Dawn of Sorrow
5. Mario Kart DS

1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
2. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
3. The World Ends With You
4. Mario Kart DS
5. Sonic Rush

DS being the best system for RPGs? Oh, sure, let's forget about SNES, PSX and PS2 (among others) for a while, then. Gee...

Anyways, there aren't many DS games that have left a lasting impression on me, but here we go:

1. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Probably my favorite DS game ever. Incredible gameplay, and actual difficulty.

2. SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu
The old classic Final Fantasy Legend 2 reborn. Incredible. Love it, love the series.
