Forums - Website Topics - The Rules About Calling Things "Exclusive"

Should a Console Exclusive thread be apart of the Gaming forum? And not a specific console or pc forum, to futher clarify that the game can be played on multiple platforms? Since it would be wrong to exclude one or the other when talking about the game.

Unless theres a specific question regarding a feature only availible via that game on a certain platform. Thats my thoughts atleast.

we can disregard the PC...because this whole generation is about "wii vs ps3 vs 360"..If the game is not on the other two but its on the PC then its console exclusive... However if you look at it from the perspective of  legal definition of "exlusive" than obviously my  logic is flawed.

This thread is both hilarious and awesome.

But really, I don't think it's a matter of people bitching about the definition of exclusive. It's those people making the lists in the first place, apart from the stickied official lists we maintain... When you make an exclusives list you KNOW you're inviting trouble.

PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes

This seems to me like rocket science... :-o)

Good. This will stop people from calling Gears 1, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Mass Effect exclusives. I was getting tired of that.

"why do I feel like Naznatips is the boss around here"

I guess I wasn't paranoid after all....

I completely agree with this.

The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for consumers to buy and use solely for playing video games from a personal computer, which has many other functions, or arcade machines, which are designed for businesses that buy them and then charge others to play.

So the term, "console exclusive" is warranted, because while it is true that games can be played on a PC, the personal computer has many other functions for use, and isn't designed for the sole purpose of playing a video game as a console would be. So when a game is made for a console, and a PC, it's only fair to refer to it as a "console exclusive" to differentiate it from other consoles, but not from the PC.

As for my personal question...

How would we go about reffering to a game such as, "Dead Rising"...seeing that a game under the same franchise was released on the Wii titled, "Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop", but offered completely different gameplay experiences, and wasn't under the same storyline as the original for the Xbox 360? Does that justify "Dead Rising" as a Xbox 360 exclusive, and "Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop" as a Wii exclusive? The Wii version seems to fit your definition of a "remake"/different game under the same franchise label. There was a big issue on this, so it'd be nice for a clarification Naznatips, thank you.

Thanks. This was long overdue.

Every thread that mentioned a exclusive that was not actually exclusive quickly became a pointless ranting. This will hopefully end that.

Thank you, a welcome decision

Also, I know this will be discussed on the forum at some point, so we might as well just get it cleared up now. Is Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 a PS3 exclusive or not? It has an online coop mode, three new characters to play, new storyline content (for all the new characters and Ryu as well), updated graphics as well as a bit of gameplay and AI changes/balancing.

Exclusive? Yes or no.

Chop Till You Drop is different enough to be a separate game. I suppose Sigma 2 can be called a remake of NG2 with the differences.

Can I use the term "HD Exclusive" to hurt Wii owners? And can I just say "Not on PS3"? It's easier than saying "Xbox and PC exclusive". And can "Uncharted 2-like" be an acceptable alternative for "PS3 exclusive"? I just like mentioning Uncharted 2.

I'm just kidding. Good rule, Naz. No "objection", here. Should make the site more enjoyable!
