Forums - Microsoft Discussion - For People who have beaten Portal

I have been a big supporter of Portal for a long time but have had very little hands on experience until yesterday. While my car was in the shop for the day, my friend let me crash at his place while he was at work (my house being several miles away from the shop). He happens to have a 360 and the orange box among other games. So after spending a little time with shadow complex and heavy weapon (both very fun in their own ways), I decided to hit up some portal. I was hooked from the start and continued to plow through the game even after my car was repaired. I loved almost every moment until.... Stage 19. Indeed, it was at this point where the game began to drag on, and on, and on. You keep entering industrial site after industrial site with no clear sign of when it will finally stop. After 45 minutes (maybe an hour) of trying to close the game out, I finally decided it was time for me to go, leaving the game unfinished.

So I have a 2 part question. 1) How freakin long is that last stretch? and 2) Is there anyone else who finds that last stage a bit of a drag after the previous 18 missions?

  1. It's long, but it sounds like you were almost there.
  2. It did drag a little but it was also still fun for me.

You need to go to your friends house and finish the game.

Yup, it was a bit long, but it's a good feeling when you're finally done. I just hate the achievements for that damn game lol.

I do plan on going back and finishing it, I just wish I didn't have to be that guy. The "can I come over and finish this single player game in your living room" guy. So many "this way" arrows.

It certainly didn't kill the experience for me or anything like that, I'm just a little tired of rusty piping at this point.

The game isn't that long anyway so there's maybe 30 more minutes or so until it's over.

The point of that part of the game was that you were using the Portal gun in places where it wasn't intended. Plus, you get to see behind the clean laboratories and see the dirty underworkings......where somebody else tried escaping before you did.

In a few minutes, there was going to be a whole lot less talking and a lot more killing. And possibly cake!

It is long, but I personally never felt like it was dragging. Glados' commentary kept me interested at all times in where I was going and what I was doing.

You are soooooooooooooooo close to one of the best endings of one of the best games ever. You need to go finish it. Go break your car so you need to use the shop by your friend's house again.
