The game division (Network and Product Services) lost $654 million for the quarter`

..... ouch.....

For the network (playstation) unit, it lost 59.9 billion yen or $654 million in the second quarter.

Wowza that's a lot!

That is $273 million worse than the same quarter 2008, however 2008 doesn't include PC sales. Pretty bad regardless.

On a positive note, Sony is doing better than expected overall. They would be probably profit for the year if it weren't for the terrible performance of the network division.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Wonder how much of that loss is from VAIO and Walkman and how much is from PlayStation 3.

$650M is quite a lot to lose in a single quarter!

Tease.

Walkman is lumped in there too, right? I believe it's PlayStation, Walkman, and Vaio, with the actually entity referred to as "Sony Computer Entertainment" now only that in name.

They really ought to drop Walkman. Sure, it is a huge brand name still, but with iPod dominance I don't see the investment as worthwhile.

they said in the Q1 shipment that Walkman was making profit and Vaio was not, i doubt it has changed that much. Sony was also hurt by the exchange rate again like Nintendo.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Yes, that's correct.

PlayStation, VAIO and Walkman businesses are now under "Networked Products & Services group". And the company's Bravia televisions, Cyber-shot digital-cameras, and audio and video operations is now under "Consumer Products Group".
