Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata (not laughing): ' We failed with the Wii'

“We failed with the Wii. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become ‘the next thing.’ In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time. We decided that it would be difficult to sell enough to recover from the poor performance of the first half of the year. In order to reach it (20 million target), we’ll have to move quite a large quantity, but it’s a figure we released after having felt the momentum returning [based off the price drop].”

I really want to know what happened at nintendo. i always get the impression that they had a lot of games get cancelled or delayed which is why their 2009 line up is so thin.

im sure trestres will enjoy this

Pixel Art can be fun.

Hmm... well, as long as they know what whent wrong, then there is something to work with. But I agree, the software has been lacking, though Nintendo is not the only ones to blame. A greater effort from 3rd parties could have made the problem smaller. The rest as they say, is history

at least some companies are able to admit to failure unlike a certain company that i happen to love

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

I don't think Nintendo are completely blameless. By the sound of things they need to communicate better with 3rd parties to help them understand the Wii. It's been 3 yrs and 3rd parties are mostly failing to bring out anything inspiring to the console. Its like they need someone to give them a push in the right direction and say, "Hey, look, you can do this and you can be sucessful!". Nintendo can only do so much with 1st party material. Most people are confident that the next Zelda is going to be something special but they need games to fill in the gap and its not happening with only 1st-party games.

I do find it odd though that they say they've failed... high standards.

Glad that they realized it. Maybe the old Nintendo from the SNES days is still alive. You know the one that didn't tolerate an abundance of shovelware on it's system

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
