Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are old games more fun then today games

For the most part, I enjoyed gaming when I was younger mom (especially from 4-16.) However, I still really enjoy playing Brawl with 3 folks. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are also fantastic. There are a few other gems that I really enjoy. It takes more to impress me know because I've been playing games for around 24 years.

If I would play them today, then definitely no.

I cannot forgive PS1 graphics.

Some are in a way.

Somehow Perfect Dark on 64 still has tons more features and playability than many so-called "next-gen" games coming out today.

The push for a more cinematic feel and improved graphics is increasing and sometimes gameplay suffers because of it.

No way. Looking back on the past games were boring. Games that were amazing in their day I find virtually unplayable today because I've been so spoiled by great graphics and games like Uncharted 2.

I'll do a signature later

"Old games more fun than today games?"

No.
You're talking about nostalgia.

Everything is deeper, gameplay is tighter, everything is more fun nowadays.

Try this:

1- Find a boy today who is gaming on the PS3/360 (the same age when YOU discovered gaming).
2- Tell them to play Zelda on the N.E.S, Sonic on the Megadrive, FF6 on the Super NES...
3- He will say: "IT SUCKS!!!" "So boorrring" "WHAT? You were playing this shit back then???"

This is almost as backwards as the idea that old games are necessarily better - there are qualities in older games that are persistent and continue to impress, even for people of newer generations. Hell, look at Soriku.

I'd have to say no, I'm now having much more fun playing games than I used to when I owned NES/ps1/ps2/some handhelds.

Old games are good when you feel nostalgic.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I enjoy the games this gen less than I enjoyed the games in any of the previous generations.

Games like 3D Dot Game Heroes (Plays like oldschool NES Zelda) and Half Minute Hero (2D Sprites, 8-16bit style) instantly grabbed me though.

I love my flashy graphics, don't get me wrong, but something about old school just grabs me.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I think you're just getting older. I do not get hyped for new releases for eg. the same way that I did at a younger age. It's like "oh that game is coming out? I'll keep an eye on it when it reaches the bargain bin." It's not like "zomg I must have this game! How come this game isn't coming any sooner? I don't want to play my old games anymore." And I took a long break from console gaming as well until the last couple years. For me, I see games as just another way to entertain yourself. All that hype crap is psychological. In the end it's just dopamine in the brain. It's similar to how you woke up early to open up your presents on christmas morning whereas now you're likely to want to sleep in on christmas morning because your old body and brain need more rest.

I've also grown to LOATHE long games with age. Jrpgs especially (painful to admit because this is a genre I once loved and gave these games chance after chance). If a game is long, it better hold my attention span. This is why hardcore gamers need to stop demanding that games become long. If I'm playing through a tedious chore-like long game and I'm thinking about the last episode of True Blood and wondering what's gonna happen next, the devs are doing it wrong. Video games were and still are my favorite hobby so it's not like I'm sick of video games (many games this generation proved to me that I still love gaming. Just not as passionate about it as I was say when I was 16 and younger). I'm just sick of tedious chore simulators that call themselves video games.

nope games nowadays are clearly more enjoyable.
