Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is pointer FPS or motion control in general worth it right now?...

The difference is Wii is tracking two points of IR light and that is the patented part. PS3 is only tracking one and it isn't using a point of IR light. It's technically very different but the result is similar.

Also did you know that The Conduit's controls are completely customisable? If you don't like the controls then try changing them to suit your preferences.

Its still technical theres no proof that SONY wand was better than wiimote in terms of accuracy and speed. But then, Nintendo already have the WM+ so SONY lost on that.

As for The Conduut, I doubt the gameplay of The conduit(because of controls I might say) can match to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpmUD8MgocI

and its just a sample. you know the very same controls Wii core gamers pissed and core gamers anticipating the conduit? The wiimote relies on lightgun arcade shooter controls. I'll say this but the wiimote only have one function on FPS. To make the newbie play FPS and TPS. THATS IT. Nintendo didnt create the wiimote for accuracy and cursor and turning speed like on the PCs. its for ease of use. THATS IT. Thats why once you get used to it it feels easy to play FPS.

Now onto the original question, is motion controls really worth it? If its not even accurate enough as analog and mouse controls. Or motion controls really intended for the casuals?

That is the same as the conduit. As for the turning speed, set it to 100 and see how fast it turns. You will set it back quick. Most of your statements are just idiotic.

Which also means the Wii isnt intended for us wasnt it? And yet everyone here keeps denying the truth. Whats traditional games that need motion control the most I include RTS and FPS here.

If you want a FPS buy it on PC instead. FPS was worth on the PC anyway...

Been there, done that, enjoying the Wii more right now, thank you.

I can understand how many people would prefer keyboard/mouse to wiimote/nunchuk, but I'm not one of them. I prefer the visceral sensation of aiming with the pointer to locking targeting and the camera together, I prefer the more natural turning of Wii shooters to the impossible 360º spins of mouse control, and I prefer the more flexible analog thumbstick movement to WASD. Last but not least, I just don't like playing games at a desk anymore.

What i find funny about ppl that complain about motion control/ pointer is that maybe its a good chance that you are just a bad player. Remember back in the day when ppl complain about the regular controller when they lost a match in Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat and say that it was the controller.

I played a lot of wii games from Godfather/ Rogue Trooper/ Scarface/ BWii (TPS), RE4 (Over the shoulder Shooter) to Conduit/ CoD WaW/ MoH (FPS). The motion controls and the pointer always works.
Nothing is perfect just like a regular controller. You just got to want to learn how to play the game maker wants you to play and stop bitching about it.

When the PS3 gets their Motion Controller ppl will give it more of a chance because the games will be known franchises (no watered down game, no side story or rail shooter) have better graphics, better online and its not nintendo. Sometimes ppl got a problem with the wii controller just because of the word "Nintendo".

For me its the graphics that is holding back the wiimote. If the system had better graphics, more companies would put their AAA game on it. I don't want blom blox.

i personally dont care about motion controlls iam ok with my dual shock maybe its because i grew up playing with it.

Motion control in anything else than sports games are gimmick for me.
For fps i prefer mouse.

Only motion game I'd consider worth playing would be good star wars game.

I prefer the FPS on wii, because it is more real, not because it is more precise. Like in reality you need a steady hand to shoot your enemys.

If you really think, that the controls of the Conduit are bad, than it could be that your hands are just not steady enough. Maybe you just need more training ...

Except it's far from being real. In case you haven't notice people are a lot smaller on TV (both in movies and game) than in real life.  So consoles shooters make it easier to aim and shoot to make up for it's controlers.  Because of this fact it's very hard to make a comparsion between controlers unless you use a PC.

I don't particularly like The Conduit, WaW is far better but how can you say it has worse controls than Red Steel and CoD3 and still expect anybody to listen to anything you have to say? The Conduit has superb controls, Red Steel and CoD3, (I've hired RS, I used to own CoD3) are absolute shit.

That's not my opinion either, them's are the facts.

"The Conduit has superb controls"

LOL are we playing the same game? Like I said the only problem with RS and COD 3(which i played BTW) was the turning. You cant turn left and the character will turn around immediately unlike in COD WAW. And WAW's controls was fast especially if you set the controls in maximum.

The Conduit I just say this, even many Wii fans dont like the impression of Geoff in giantbomb on The Conduit its actually true especially the controls.

Wii: Camera in the controller, tracks the sensor bar

PS3: Camera near the TV, tracks the controller

So really, whats the difference? What it only did was change whats tracking what

If you watch Johnny Chung Lee Wii's head tracking video you will quickly see the difference. There is a good reason Johnny didn't attach the wii remote on to his head but instead use glasses with IR lights.  That is you have better precision with the camera being stationary than the other way around. Johnny only discovered what Natural Point and anyone else who did IR tracking already knew.

So  Why didn't Nintendo use a stationary camera instead put them in a controller?   Multiplayer ; each camera tracks the IR light separately. Sony find a solution with the camera track different colors instead of just IR light. Thus a stationary camera for better precision at the same time able to track 4 players with the same camera. the newer TrackIR use three IR points to track your head in 3-D space. Sony is using one tracking point with motion sensors to track your hand in 3-D. We have to wait and see how  accurate it is.

I'm biased so anything I say will just get me in trouble.

I'll just leave it at no, I don't like motion controls and I don't think they're worth it.

Again, everyone dont get it... Anyone remember Nintendo E3 2006? When the first wiimote unveiled to the public?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Hx07coihqA

Since when did Nintendo in whole conference that the Wii will revolutionized FPS? Who even says that? I've caught in the moment, I mean Wii will revolutionized FPS?!! therell be a RTS game? WOW Ninty was good! Therell be controls more accurate and fast than the mouse and analog. It will be good!

3 years later wheres the promise? Why's the Wii become the opposite of what it should've been? Why is the Wii have less FPS and TPS than HD consoles? Because Nintendo didnt promised that. Its the gaming journalists promised that. Even red Steel in that conference didnt featured the shooting aspect it featured the swordfighting aspect even many core gamers thinks its the bad aspect of Red Steel. hence the title

So why 3rd parties dont like FPS on the Wii?

Because 3rd parties wants this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO_W7uo8UoQ

COD MW2

Not this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52m77PXabS4

medal of honor heroes 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STCQlraa2Y8

COD WAWii

actually, the Wii pointer interacts with 2-d plane, NOT in 3-d plane. Unlike in analog and mouse. Thats why the Wii pointer were suitable for games like these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5wCrCaVHiU

rail shooters

.... And thats why Wii FPS was easy once you get used to it. Wii pointer interacts with 2-d plane for a reason. For the casuals that never played shooters before. Thats why the SONY wand was a huge mistake for SONY, not only the technology wasnt sure way of giving the gamer a accurate and precised controls it also used a 3-d plane. Good for FPS but I suspect it will be a hassle like analog. Though we will never know till we tried it arent we?

this is really what I think of Wii core and loyal Nintendo gamers when it cones to the Wii. this is very very appropriate song:

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
When you take, you gotta give, so live and let live,
Or let go.
I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could promise you things like big diamond rings,
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover.
So you better think it over.
Well, if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true,
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter,
But what would it matter?
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.

Instrumental break.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could sing you a tune or promise you the moon,
But if that's what it takes to hold you,
I'd just as soon let you go, but there's one thing I want you to know.
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep,
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out,
And you know what I'm talkin' about.
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
