In July the Saudi man who had made the confessions on a Lebanese television station (owned by a Saudi prince) was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 1000 lashes. 5 years in jail for talking about sex on tv. His friends who had talked about his exploits were sentenced to 2 years in jail for talking about someone else's sex life.

The US and several western democracies are allies of the Saudi Arabian government even though they're almost as bad as the Taliban.

This is not religious in any way, it's cultural, and something that often gets mixed up in religion as that's the excuse the leaders use to dish out punishments such as this. Religion is simply the tool of leaders and politicians.

And no, I don't actually support them, I'm just saying that maybe morality is not progressing constantly like science, but relative.
