Forums - Nintendo Discussion - replaying Final Fantasy 1 on VC (impressions)

I've really grown to like chill wii-mote only games on my wii.  So I got my free nes game from nintendo for buying the net channel way back when, and I looked at what I didn't have yet, and FF won out.

I really was unsure of what to expect, I remembered loving the game, but thinking it was unplayable after I got Final Fantasy 2 on my snes.  I have to admit though it's pretty addictive.  Before I was more into story and less into grinding, though thats completely flipped around now in most cases (aside from say final fantasy 12, metal gear solid 4, gears of war, or a horror game) I skip or barely pay attention to the story in games.

Final Fantasy is vague, and more difficult to figure out what to do and where to go, making it more challenging and fun I think.  Pretty refreshing lack of cut scenes as well.

My main complaint is that I have to play it with the sound off as the music is unbearable.  A few other minor issues of things they never figured out yet, such as if you are gonna attack a guy who is dead, you just waste an attack.  Also in stores buying a lot of something is like data entry work.

All in all though I'm pleasently surprised.

anyone else back into this ancient hunk of junk?

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

I just got it for the PSP a last year. I'm not buying an inferior version again. It is a great game though and set some standards for the Role Playing genre.

Yeah the sound must be like torture compared to what we get now. Gaming has come so far it's mind blowing. Good choice though.

@dr grass

some games are still ok from then soundwise

ff tho is the king of 5 second loops

i bought this game on the VC, haven't played it yet though. I also have the cart with the box and instruction manual. yay!

I'll pick it up soon so I can actually own my own copy.

I don't find the music unbearable at all. I think it's pretty great.

i prefer to play the original over the remakes. I'm probably gonna buy it on VC but i have beat it numerous times on my NES including last year. I'm gonna get rid of my NES so i'll probably get it on virtual console. It's a great game as long as you are the type of person that still likes NES games and doesn't mind that type of fighting.
I actually really like the music.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
