I usually get sub 50 ping on L4D dedicated servers. Normally around 30.

Consistantly though?

Right now going on lan between my 3 comps in uT2004 I have 9 ping on the highest one, and that's using a wireless, not ethernet. There is no way to reachtht on the actual internet.

yes, actually there is. When I used XBC there were times I was getting around 38 ping consistantly. Even still, this is irrelevant to the initial response I made, because having good PING is only a bonus of LANing, not the purpose of doing it.

It IS the purpose of it. Having internet in a house is a given so unless you get the switch out in the middle of a cave using your laptops, chances are there is an internet ocnnection around. The purpose of a LAN is to reduce the pings as much as possible, there is a reason why ALL tournaments are done using LAN not the shitty internet. Also those 39 ping times are 30 ms more than my wireless LAN.

147K.

That's pretty impressive actually. I mean not compared to the sales COD6, COD4(2) or whatever it's called will get but nice for an online petition.

Used to play CoD1 on PC years back.
Never bought a CoD game on PC since that one, been buying consoles.

Reason I didn't sign is because we've been playing on non dedicated servers on consoles, it isn't all that bad, we've had to deal with it, so why can't you? Just get over it.. Such a stupid reason not to buy the game.

So instead of getting "Modern Warfare" and playing matches from 12v12 to 25v25 players in size, complete with plenty of server mods if needed to slightly re-balance the game to the size and environment, we get : " Modern Squad Skirmish" with a max of 8v8 when you are lucky enough to find a stable host with a good enough home internet connection and PC who doesnt also happen to be a raging asshat - and you call it a stupid reason not to buy the game?

I dont see why you dont demand IW to allow DS on consoles, instead of telling us to be happy about getting a lesser product. Biggest reason I dont play much console multiplayer is the terrible lag and difficulty finding good games. After being a primarily PC gamer for so long, my standards are just to high with regards to what constitutes a good place to play online.

Overall, it is true though that PC sales for CoD4 though good were still far less than console sales. I think console sales were about 14 million while PC sales were less than 2 million. Its just too large of a disparity, so they can effectivly fire their PC fanbase with little immediate effects. At least 500k ppl or so who dont pay attention to online news or FPS forums or play in MMO clans etc will NOT get the memo and buy MW2 anyhow unknowing that unlike the previous game, the multiplayer experience is going to suck. And IW will still make some money off the PC. Ofc the issue is, they think those 500k  will liek their new "consolified" experience and they will get more players over time. This is where they are wrong, I am looking forward to the second wave of hate on IW to start with double intensity on launch day as hundreds of thousands of folk who didnt get the memo flood the internet in a rage that MW2 multiplayer does indeed suck balls, is totally different, and they got suckered.

It should be pretty comical tbh.

No, that is not the purpose of it. Seriously, LANing in the way I was using it (form a gamers perspective) is connecting several computors together in order to play video games. I mean seriously, when you LAN with a bunch of friends at your house, do you all spend the entire time pinging eachother and drooling over your ping rates, or do you play games? Having good ping is a SIDE EFFECT of LANing, playing games is the PURPOSE of LANning, the two are very differant. You are just embarrasing yourself now, please, for your sake, stop.

Meh, I won't be playing the PC version. So this doesn't effect me, it actually sounds like a smart thing to do, keeps pirates at bay!
so me = Not signed.

Besides, you can LAN over the internet, it's just a little difficult. but there are free programs that do the work for you.

Do you even know what the point of LAN is? Apparently not, going by your response.

The point of a LAN is to link two or more systems/PCs together. Usually this term is most heard in PCgamer circles and is often done so that friends can play co-op or against each-other.

I don't think YOU know what the point of a lan is.

LAN = Local Area Network.

You can't do LAN over the internet.

Software replicates LAN like expierences... but they don't work as well.

Additionally such software is actually kinda dangerous since it's "tricking" your computer into thinking the internet is a LAN connection.

Some Wii fans are totally fine with SD graphics, so if the graphics of an HD multiplat (Wii+HD) game were the same as the Wii's, can someone say:

"... It isn't all that bad, we've had to deal with it, so why can't you? Just get over it.. Such a stupid reason not to buy the game."

It doesn't make any sense to settle for less than what is already standard.

I actually want PS3/360 games to have SD Graphics.  It'd save a lot of money and hopefully lead to more sequels/games.

Off topic though.

Technically speaking, you are right. However, using the LAN software, you are connecting two or more computors over the internet in a virtual LAN. Virtual is the word i left out, but that's only because  ididn't think i would honestly have to make this argument.

Aditionally, such softawre does nothing more than set your computor network setting to work with other people's computor network settings. you can do the same thing without the software, it is just more of a hassle. You are creating a discrete connection, and with the proper firewall, a fairly secure one.

^a lan is local... it just is.... thats why its called a lan.

the point of a lan is to connect computers in close proximity to eachother together, computers connecting to eachother over the internet is NOTHING like a lan.

MW2 just dropped again to 5th place on Steam. Can't even beat the Deluxe Edition of Dragon Age

After Infinity Ward's terrible decision about MW2's multiplayer, and the huge backlash from the community and PC gamers in general, the pre-order sales are now suffering from it.

Modern Warfare 2 can now be pre-ordered on Steam, but it has only reached an extremely disappointing 5th place in it's first day of pre-order. This is stark contrast, since COD4 dominated Steam for over a year (stayed top5 in almost every week) and being the Top Sellers for months there.

You can sign the petition if you wish, against the removal of DS in MW2. 147k people have done so: http://www.petitiononline.com/dedis4mw/petition.html

I have to disagree, my reasons for the low pre-order on steam is that it is still full price and has no discount.  Unlike most other Steam pre-orders which usally come with -10%, -20% off or a free game, so people jump at buying it.

So expect MW2 to be up there when it is release, at the moment I have pre-order borderlands and have no money left to pre-order MW2 but will buy it when it is release.
