Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tekken 6's Lack of Hype? Namco F'd Up? (Other Thread Broke)

I've been to a lot of forums this year including sites that have hardcore 360 and PS3 fanboys, and during this time of year everyone is posting their "What To Get" lists of upcoming games. Among many of them I saw games like Uncharted 2, Ratchet, MW2, Halo ODST, L4D2, AC2 and surprisingly even the Saboteur frequently. However, Tekken 6 has rarely even popped up on anyone's radar and with launch just 5 days away I find it a little disheartening.

So what happened? Well in my honest opinion I think Namco announcing the game as a multiplat game has actually damaged the game's potential market. Tekken was always seen as Playstation's premiere Fighting Series and for the most part thats true. And when it was announced to be going multiplat (And the fact that Namco shelved the PS3 copy so they could work on the 360 copy) has literally sucked away all hype for this game.

Just my 2 cents, what do you guys say?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I think that the games timing is perfect as no other big fighting games this year or the near future to compete with it. the marketing is weak so far. seems like they only doing any marketing with gametrailers.com with all those videos.
They know hardcore fans will buy it reguardless but it can be soo much more with some tv ads in the next few days. It going multiplate has weakend its hype as the fanboys wont throw it on there shoulders as much as if it was exclusive.

I'm putting this game in the RE5 catagory where your gunna see good sales re-guardless of hype. I know im buying it this holiday season after MW2.
But missing out on a chance to be something bigger with the weak marketing.

I remember the days when this series sold 6-7 million. Think about those sales for a minute. Pretty nuts. Regardless, it won't hinder my enjoyment, this is my favorite fighting series and I will have it.

But yes, Namco is missing out on some pretty nice sales with crap marketing. And so little competition, it's unfortunate.

I'd be hyped as hell right now if it were still PS3 exclusive. Weird how that works :/

I'm buying it, though.

I doubt there'd be any major changes if it was exclusive.

Anyways, I'll think about getting the game if it has more features/variety than SC4 (not much else to do besides standard versus matches). That adventure mode thing seems alright, but I would've loved it alot more if it supported 2 players offline.

Btw, is there a major difference between Namco and Namco Bandai?

Tekken went multiplat? That's probably one reason why it's not being majorly hyped then.

Tekken series was good for the first three games but after Tekken 3 the series has been very boring- IMO. Tekken 6 I had no idea it was releasing this year.

the weakest tekken game was tekken 4 so maybe thats why you feel that way. but tekken 5 and 5:DR were both great and brought back that great feeling.
I dont know why they didn't add a tekken tag mode just for some added variety in game modes.

It's not becouse it went to multiplatform.
It's becouse it was delayed by freaking 9 to 12 months becouse of that.

And in that time fightning game fans got a lot of love (SF IV, BB, KoF, TvsC)
