It definitely was. I remember wanting a Wii at the time, and they launched with 1000000 in the first week(maybe month). Everyone was like "sweet I could just walk in a store and buy one." I fell into that crowd and didnt get a Wii until 4 months later thanks to a horrible blizzard, an asshole employer that made me work the blizzard and good luck. I have seen Wii's 2 times since and I always check just for kicks. Everytime I find one its just a little exciting to see one in stores, and it usually gets bought up within minutes of me seeing it.

PS3's on the other hand were the next big thing cause people figured that the PS brand would create big sales. Ebay preorders were fetching obscene amounts of money $1000-$2500 for a unit by itself. People wanted to get their hands on these things because they were supposed to be the big thing and did not want to miss the Christmas gift of the year. The vultures on ebay were starting preorder prices at $800 for a $500-$600 retail system. Various news reports had clips of people waiting in line for a week outside of retailers just to get their hands on the system, though not all were ebayers I would say 1/3 of all in those lines hoped to turn a profit.

Then reality hit. People werent totally sold on PS3 for a number of reasons and the majority of ebay vultures ended up not being able to turn a profit off of their PS3's(+tax). News stories started coming in that unopened PS3's were being returned in mass to retailers and by the time Christmas rolled around you could walk into most retailers and buy one right off the shelves.

 Now almost a year later PS supporters are saying that R&C, Uncharted, FF, MGS and others will jumpstart the brand. Only time will tell.

This guy believed him. Now, months later, he has resorted to this (NSFA-anyone):

In march this year they stated that they intend to sell a total amount of 6million by end of this year.
This was needed to convince developers.
This was also a prediction because of the price tag.

But since the recent events; price drops and AAA games. It will surpass the 6 million barrier this year.
Also the forced sale of the 60gig will help push out all older SKU's and give Sony the chance to use smaller chip and reduce the costs even further.
In January HOME,KZ2 & MGS4 will be released. January will move an approximate of 2million consoles.
In 2008 you will have Tekken, GTA, GT and all other hot stuff like RROM and others.

This year alone Sony sold PS3 consoles with almost no games. What if there are enough games...WHAT WILL HAPPEN. the xbox360 needs games to sell....the PS3 also needs games, but history has proven it sold with just a few games.

I guess MS is going to be thumbed in 2008 because the PS3 will sell more consoles in a shorter span then the Xbox360 did. This alone is the prove of the strength of the PS brand and the PS3.
Bioshock did not sell as many as the hypers thought.
Halo3 will sell about 4 million pieces.
KZ2 will sell about 5-6 million pieces. This is guaranteed (becoz Sony will push it in your face).
Say KZ2 can push 3mil consoles :)
MGS can push 2 mil consoles :)
that's 5million + 8 million this year = 13 million by February

But the future is bright and fail prove also counting the major trolling by certain people :)

Well,it´s getting harder and harder for the PS3 to 'win' this 'console war'...the more its competitors outsell it every month,on a worlwide basis,the harder it is for the system to play catch up,let alone 'win'...the "snowball effect" might just get worse and worse for Sony and better and better for MS and Nintendo.

this year alone Nintendo sold Wii consoles with no games at all! Wow!

Your six million consoles was the amount they planned on shipping by march, not the amount they plan on selling by '08. (Unless you have a source to prove me wrong?)

Do you have any backing on Jan moving 2 million consoles? Last January they struggled past 300k, I doubt they are suddenly going to sell 7 times as many in the same time of year.

Halo 3 will sell 4 Million copies, are you insane? Its already at 5.14M according to this site!

KZ2 isnt guaranteed to do well at all, its a sequal to an average game. It currently looks good and probably will be good, but thats what people thought about Lair as well. Also it simply wont push 3M consoles, that shit just doesnt happen. MGS wont push 2M either.

It doesnt just work as individual games 'pushing' consoles, its about the library and perceived value. Personally, I would bet that by Febuary there will not be 13M consoles sold.

LOL I agree with Konnichi :3 it almost doesn't seem complete somedays to look at "hot forum topics" and not see some anti-sony thread :D I mean honestly, I can understand SOME reasons to hate SONY, I really can :) but its almost so menial and silly at this point,  I honestly think someone should compile a list of things people have constantly bitched about regarding the PS3. We should see how many of them get "fixed" and then we should all sit around making up new challenges for the PS3 to take on.

I mean what's going to happen if Sony DOES take lead on Microsoft? What happens if Sony's catalogue of games does take off past Microsofts? It seems like a bunch of fanboys are almost just "waiting" for the PS3 to win for some reason. I mean honestly if you have that much faith in your console of choice, just support it! Why flamebait the other console? 

I'm a SONY supporter and I hate basically everything Microsoft, I have my reasons and they won't change, but I'm not going to go into Microsoft threads and start crap xD. I'm simply not interested in the console and therefor not interested in how it's doing or where its going. The gamecube was the man out last generation and plenty of good game were still created on it, more than enough to keep any gamer satisfied with their purchase.

If you DON'T like the playstation, we get it! The whole site gets it :) Stop wasting time nagging about something you hate, and spend some time supporting what you love :P, it just works out better in the end. Of course for some of us that means FAR LESS entertaining posts ^_^ Flame topics happen to be my favorite.
