Crysis 2 will be the best looking game on both consoles, looking basically the same. Tho if done properly, the pc version will rape em. So a multiplat is going to be the best, looking better than any exclusive.

In the last released video from CryENGINE 3, the PS3 looking better... see 0:48 for comparison.

0.48 doesn't prove anything.

Yeah... it doesn't prove anything, but PS3 (right) slightly better than 360 (left) .

Those of you that claim that MGS 4 has bland graphics have not played the game. The game has set the standard for graphics when released. Please watch this:

OP needs pics.

For cripes sake! Yes, it probably does. No, it doesn't mean its 'better' than 360. Why? Because more big PS3 exclusives have PS3 only customised engines built from scratch than the 360.

Oh, and the view in Uncharted 2 from the roof of the hotel in Nepal? Wow. But like I say, that's a custom engine massively tuned to PS3 only vs say Gears 2 running on a multi platform engine, so it should be better.

TBH if certain PS3 exclusives like Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 didn't look better something would be wrong, as if you have two equally proficient coders, and one optimizers for a single platform, and the other is optimizing general code for a single platform, the former should always produce better results.

As of now Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 look much better than any console game I've seen. MGS4 is around the level of RE5/Gears 2, I can't say it looks significantly better. Heavy Rain, GOW and GT could be countered by Halo: Reach, Alan Wake and Fable 3 as far as we know.

I'm getting a PS3 next month (for it's exclusives- 360 will still be my main console for multi plat and online.....though one never knows that might change) and personally I thought Batman, Resi 5, Gears, Assasins Creed....they look really good on the 360 (and I know for a fact they look better on 360 than the PS3 versions except of course Gears which is exclusive). So is Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 that much better graphically than any of those games? You use 'much better'... is that what I should expect or is it down to personal artistic tastes?

Technically (i.e. not art style or anything subjective like that) the cream of the crop PS3 exclusives are graphically better than anything on 360.

However, we're not talking 'hugely' here but yes, noticeable if you're into that sort of thing.  I'm talking Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 here, plus the original Uncharted.  Uncharted 2 for example pips Gears 2 in just about every way, frame rate, screen tear, motion blur, etc. but only slightly in each case.

As I said in my earlier posts, it should be borne in mind that these titles are built on custom, brand new engines developed on and for PS3 only. Gears 2, for example, is on an open middleware engine.  I think Forza 3 is the first 360 title on a custom engine that shines graphically, although it only just pips GT5:P and I think there remains a fair chance GT5 will outshine Forza 3 graphically (note, I'm not talking handling, damage, physics, etc. just pure visual fidelity).

On the other hand, you'll find most multi-plat titles look slighlty better on 360, particularly anything built on Unreal engine, which simply runs smoother natively on PC / 360 s PS3.  Some 3rd party titles look equal and a few slightly favour the PS3, however the majority favour the 360.  Again though, for the most part you're talking small differences apart from a few extreme cases, say Ghostbusters, where the developers clearly found coding, etc. on 360 much easier than PS3 and failed to produce equivilant results.

I don't think Forza 3 is really amazing visually. I mean don't get me wrong it looks great and all and runs very smoothly but it was cleary rushed out for Xmas time (less than 2GB used on second disc) but luckily Turn 10 did the smart thing and concentrate on the gameplay side of things (expanded livery editor, online play, kept it at 360hz physics).

About screen tearing, I must go back and play Gears again as I didn't notice much but I've seen a few on the Uncharted 2 vids. I know the first Uncharted had a lot.

Both Gears had some screen tearing and a lot of texture pop-in.  Uncharted has less pop-in but some as well as tearing (not much but it was there, around Gears levels I'd say but slightly more noticable due to the colour palette).  Uncharted 2 has no tearing I've seen but probably a little.  Digital Foundry has a very good analysis on Uncharted 2 tech explaining all the clever stuff ND did to prevent it.  Technically, and most true technical analysis I've seen have backed this, I'd say Uncharted at the time just piped Gears and now Uncharted 2 outperforms Gears 2 by a slightly higher margin.

Forza 3 isn't totally amazing visually I agree, I just mean it's a rare example of a truly custom engine and it can be seen that in principle it delivers strong visuals as a result .

What I find a lot of people miss is that while the console is important in terms of its basic specs, it's the game engine and coding that makes more of a difference, and the PS3 has simply had more custom engines vs 360 (so far as I'm aware).  The 360 though is easier to develop for, particularly for developers with PC background.

I remember on Uncharted there was an interesting 'making of' video where ND explained how many techniques they had to learn for PS3 vs PS2, many of which of course developers like Epic would already have been familiar with as they would have already been using them on PC.

So in some ways 360 has had a developer skillset advantage for graphically intense games, and a good SDK, while PS3 has had an advantage in terms of custom engines.

Both consoles, IMHO, have proven their worth graphically with many great titles.  Although of course, not as much as my PC has!
