in america they proably will. also this idiot shouldnt go talking about sonys financial stuff. only sony know that and no one else. especially coming from this guy, as he does talk alot of shite.

im pretty sure sony started making money on there consoles like... last year? cos the price of the cells went down or something i dunno. im pretty sure i read that, maybe i was just dreaming :p

In the US, Microsoft has so far sold 2,955,589 XBox 360s, while Sony has sold 2,324,342 PS3s (from 2008-12-27 to 2009-10-10).

There are 11 weeks left in the year. Sony would have to sell 631,247 more PS3s than 360s, which works out to be about 57,400 more per week.

Given that sales increase during the holiday season, I would expect the current weekly gap to widen. If that happens, it is quite plausible that Sony will outsell Microsoft for the calendar year.

This will be the first holiday season this generation that Sony and Microsoft will be competing with similar price points—not to mention the Wii’s new price cut. How much of a concern is that for Microsoft?

It is not a real concern to us – in fact, I can tell you to that when NPD releases September sales later today, we fully expect PlayStation 3 will come in as the console with the most units sold for the month. This is frankly not a real surprise to us or the analysts that follow this industry, as it is typical to see a short term bump following the introduction of new hardware and pricing into the marketplace.  What I can tell you is we remain confident that Xbox 360 will not only outsell PS3 for the full calendar year, but for this entire generation.  It is similar to a game of baseball, it is not about just winning one inning, but instead being able to win the game by consistently delivering across all nine innings

I frankly wouldn't bet against MS on this...they will do what it takes, whether it's Natal, masssive price cuts in 2010 if needed, etc...

 

He also says

There is also the whole financial side of the equation that people rarely seem to pay attention to.  Sony, for example, has publicly noted that they lose money on every console they sell and with the price cut, they’re now losing even more money – so even with the PS3 in the market today at $299, you have to question if their business model is sustainable.

Interesting. He's saying they're losing more money on the Slim than before, which is probably true.

Lol big talk considering the PS3 has beat 360 by over 900,000 units since the PS3 price cut. I could see PS3 beating 360 by 100k per week from November until Christmas

You must not be paying attention.  The 360 will outsell the PS3 by probably at least 200K for the rest of year, most likely closer to 500K.
