Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Nintendo deserves to be on top.

They don't deserve to be on top. I don't care if nintendo "started gaming" (which it did not) back then, during the cold war. It is what the companies do now and there nintendo fails. Microsoft and sony would deserve be on top.

Why?  They misread the market, they are money losers, and they underestimated their competition, those mistakes don't help you win marketshare

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Nintendo practically never aimed for a huge chunk of the market self-proclaimed "hardcore", how can they "deserve" to win? They get what they want and have been healthy for more than any other company would dream of in this tough industry.

Nintendo deserves to be on top because it is on top.
They earned the right to be better, by the virtue of being better.

If Nintendo would have made the Gamecube 2 and be at third place, or forced to go third party, I wouldn't say that they deserve to be first place, because they wouldn't.

Nintendo deserves to be on top this gen because they had the better ideas, they understood the market well...probably the only thing wrong this gen is the ps3 at last place, but that happened because x360 launched 1 year before and because the ps3 was too expensive...

Last gen both GC and Xbox deserved better sales, but that didn't happen...it's life :)

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Nintendo don't deserve anything as far as I'm concerned. They've lost me as a customer. They do not cater to my needs. I owned a Wii, and I sold it. It looked a blurry mess on my HDTV and all the games I played felt constrained by the technology and, in general, very PS2. The Wii is an inferior console to the competition with one saving grace (as far as our household was concerned): Wii Fit; but that was not enough to keep it.

I really wanted to love the Wii, but didn't. Fortunately, I made a profit on the machine, so I'm not complaining.

I'll be waiting for an HD version before I consider buying Nintendo again. Hopefully they have a decent online service by then, and a wider range of good games.

Hear hear!

Although Microsoft and Sony have done their respective bits for gaming... but then again, Sony undoubtedly played a part in the demise of Sega.

I'm so glad Nintendo is back on top.

my only annoying thing with Nintendo this gen is the lack of 3rd party support (GOOD QUALITY SUPPORT).

I am sure Nintendo could be a bit more active in trying to help in gettings some western games. Their main focus is still on the japanese market.

No the third party support is the third party problem, comes down to the fact that third parties know they can't beat Nintendo when it comes to making games, which is why they devote their big effort to the 360 and PS3, where the competition is easier

Yes and No.

reason I say that it because Nintendo left a HUGE gap for them this year to release quality games which would not be competing with anything from Nintendo, but forgot to like talk to developers. But they still refused to make games. They need to through some bucks and work with building relations better just like microsoft and sony do.

Hell even the N64 had better games from 3rd parties and there was sweet all support compared to ps1.

This big gap has caused a drought on the Wii of quality games. Now they are all coming at once and will be competing with each other for customer $$. In the mean time a fair few Wii owners went out and baught other console to fill the void.

Sony's arrival in to the gaming business was the start of the "corporate" era of console gaming.

It wasn't about how good you were, it was about how much money you had.

It's always been like this. Let's take music as an example. It was one of the greatest forms of art, but with the rise of the contemporaneous era, it's boiled down to who has the clip with the most hot chicks or who's more of a bad girl and so on, and the more money you have, more people like you, because north-americans ought to be represented by rich good-looking people, rather than them-selves. Anyways, in today's art scenario, cash is what counts, quality is secondary. I mean, how do you think the new Bionic Commando was so overrated and sucssessfull?

And this is why I support piracy.

Artists are supposed to be starving!
