Take my love, take my land..

Not going to get excited for this until the first one finally comes out fourteen months late, but it does look nice. I like the colorful world of this game, and the stylized graphics balanced between anime and 3D. And the character customization looks fun. Hope they improve a lot in the sequel and the game gets better word of mouth.

I heard they made the battles in the original much more challenging in a patch a few months ago, which is a good sign for this one.

There's definitely a difference -- they're addressing the underwhelming in-game character models of the first one by giving everything a very subtle cell-shaded style, I think. Look at the older guy's pics and you'll see what I mean. Everything looks a bit smoother, with sharper colors.

The environments also look more complex, and look really good (which they already do in the first game) but that may just be selective screenshot syndrome.

Eh, the issues with the character models in the first game stemmed from the basic design philosophy. If you look at the original trailer for WKC, the character models look excellent, but they later decided to recreate all their character models using the in-game editor, and it gave them all a slightly more rounded, baby-faced look, causing them to look kinda off.

The ever so slight cel-shading they've added in does improve the overall look of the characters, I will say that. The lighting model has also improved , and it was pretty good in the first game already. The environments still look pretty bad, though. The ground textures are horribly low rez.

Agreed, I noticed the ground texture too.

I'm assuming the choice to remake all the characters with the editor had to do with engine limitations (they couldn't store the unique character models plus all the editor-created models in memory at the same time, or something like that).

To me, I wouldn't even mind the character models from the first game if they had managed to get the animations to look more like the target they created in the original trailer. Nothing bugs me more than MMO-like animations, where a character can get in too close and basically be standing inside the the enemy they're attacking, and all other sorts of unspeakable clipping. I hope they increase the quality/synchronicity of the animations. Though if they're going up to a six character party, they may not.

I can not believe this Generation has had so few JRPGs.
