This is really great news for Sony, PS3= $600, GC=$150 and they sell the same. I'm truly stunned you people think this is bad news.

Its only alarming because of name recognition. If you look at all the variables it makes sense based on Price and competition of this generation. Its not alarming or disgusting like people want to make it sound if we actually consider the variables at work liek logical people.....thus, madness will ensue as logic knows know plce in PS3 bashing threads.

 Yep hes right ... and lets dont forget , the GC has an awesome launch lineup , with Star Wars for ex. ( there is a huge SW fan comunity ) , while the only really exceptional game for the PS3 was RFOM ...

Oh! OOoo! I remember proclaiming that FF7 would fail because it was on the PS1.

"Loading times will bore everyone!"
"Who cares about FMVs? See them once, and you're bored with them!"
"People expect Final Fantasy on Nintendo's systems, they'll never buy the newcomer!"
"Ewwww the 3D graphics suck!" (Personally, I can't look at FF7 anymore from a technical standpoint.)

As you can guess, I ate some industrial-strength crow after FF7 was released...

Ahhh, I remember thinking the exact same thing.  I played FFVII at an EBGames and thought there is no way anyone is going to buy that trash, the graphics were bad, it seemed like you only played maybe 1/3 of the time with the rest being FMV and load times, and the idea of a Final Fantasy not on a Nintendo console just didn't compute for me.

I wasn't the best market analyst in those days, I also thought Madden would never sell year after year with just roster updates, Mortal Kombat would do better on the SNES since the graphics were better and who wants violence anyways, and that dual analog was an idiotic contol scheme when Goldeneye/Zelda/Mario played just fine with one.  My last terrible video game call was that GTAIII wouldn't sell well because who wants to run around killing cops, beating up people, and doing prostitutes? Well a heck of a lot more than I thought.

Anyways, more on topic, all I can saying to crying Sony fanboys is get used to the heartache from Nintendo fanboys.  Many Nintendo fanboys are itching to repay with interest the heartache Sony fanboys have casued them for the last 12 years.  The best advice I can give is do what I did late in the N64 days, grow up and get over it.

@kber81

I have to agree your routine is getting more aggravating, and less entertaining as time goes on. Seriously if all your going to post is the same dribble every single time you post then why bother in the first place. The flaws in your logic have been explained to you dozens of times, and historical information has been presented to you. You even apparently ignore the data that is the hallmark of this very site.

You talk about PS3 momentum. Yes there is momentum in the general sense the Game Cube has momentum. Were you to have sold ten of something and sold just one more even if it was a hundred years later you would have momentum. The truth is that the PS3 momentum is a roller coaster. Sony cuts the prices, or introduces a bundle. Then suddenly sales rocket up for a couple weeks, and then the consoles sales slide back down to a base state. Usually shedding a quarter of the previous weeks sales in getting there each and every week

Anyone else feel we are seeing a diminishing return scenario in the PS3 when it comes to price slashing. The first one took nine months in North America. Then almost four months for the next price slash. Were the trend to continue we are actually due another price slash in December. Mark my words it will probably happen. Thats right we will be getting a $300 model three weeks before Christmas. I know poor humor, but I would not be shocked if it happens.

If the PS3 dropped to $300 in December Sony shareholders would go berserk. It would be 300 Sony Execs vs a million Shareholders, lol.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

As Chadius said. Sony is in a tight pot; more price reductions, more angry shareholders; no more price reductions, angry possible customers.

lol I just read the first page and how people brutaly denied the ps3 would be even close to 360 World wide sales in the holidays,

Tough call for me to say. I think sales will increase, but its how much it will increase, will the 40gb be attractive? Or abandoned like the core 360?

GC = $200

PS3 = $400

Some people bought a PS3 for a cheap Blu-ray player, too.

And also the GC was getting destroyed (albeit some VERY good games) by the PS2, plus little hype.

What are you trying to compare? The $399.99 ps3 hasnt been released in the U.S yet.

Ya know, the Dreamcast dropped its price real quick too....That didn't mean it sold well during it's Christmas period.

IMO, the 40gb PS3 is a good move @ $400, but it's only putting a bandaid on the venom going through the PS3 (no uber-exclusives, weak 1st party games).

Sony has to keep the PS3 @ $400 for a long time. MS has had a huge advantage with their drops: keeping the price so high for so long built a strong precieved value in the hardware. When a price drop happened, sales skyrocketed. With Sony dropping the price twice so quick, I wonder if consumers might get the impression a drop to $300-350 might be looming, making them think "oh, Im just going to wait awhile longer".

Sony needs to make it's stand at $400. Save their cash, and dev more games, and focus on cheaper games that have a lower chance of crashing (no Lair-budget games), and try to take back that pitiful 4.5%-ish number of J-games coming to PS3.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The Gamecube did well in the US compared to how it did in Eu

if you put all three regions together the PS3 would be ahead by about 500k worldwide (yes there is data for GC 'other' on the charts)

nope, for whatever reason if you do all regions the others does not show up for gamecube but it does for ps3.  If you do all 3 seperately you will see what i mean.  The GC is still outselling PS3 even in WW sales, gap might be closing now though.  Even in Europe it is tracking almost even, but it helps that GC had a holiday season boost.  GC is still tracking ahead in japan and usa.

I have been on the forum and therefore know of past sales enough to know when the charts are lieing to me, i will admit that the others and sometimes Japan data doesnt appear or load [not sure why] but when i posted that it was working for both seperated regions [GC about 4 million] and using total all [GC line went above 21 million] So worldwide, the PS3 is tracking ahead of the GC by 500k.

According to VG chartz, didnt the Xbox360 sell even less consoles at this point in its lifecycle?

It had 4,900,000 sold. Maybe im looking at it wrong but it says on October 22nd 2006 the Xbox360 had 4,900,000 sold. Why do people keep bringing up sales for the PS3 to bash it even though their console was doing worse.
