Think twice before buying Forza Motorsport 3 used. Earlier this morning, Microsoft announced that the upcoming racing title will have packaged-in DLC.

Dubbed the “Motorsports Legends Car Pack,” the launch day DLC consists of ten additional cars and two downloadable tracks. The vehicles, listed below, have been “hand picked” by developer Turn 10 for maximum vehicular awesomeness. The tracks, though, appear to be merely created for maximum DLC-ness.

• ’81 BMW M1
• ’60 Chevrolet Corvette
• ’69 Dodge Charger
• ’57 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

• ’67 Lamborghini Miura P400
• ’71 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R
• ’65 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

Forza 3 hits retail on October 27th, while the DLC will make it to Xbox LIVE Marketplace day and date. No word on what the pack will cost consumers who neglect buy the game fresh, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Free DLC with the purchase of FM 3

translation?

Translation: we are making "new" packages more valuable than "used" packages.  For example: buy used from gamestop and you don't get this DLC for free.  Buy new and you do.  Don't buy used.

Forza 2 sold tons and tons of used copies.  Part of the issue is that it's the most realistic style sim game out there, which appeals to a relatively small niche.  And then it was freely packaged with Xbox 360s.  Quickly, it began to sell used for $10 on the street.  They're hoping to discourage that.

Why not just include it on disc 2? Turn 10 are trying so to get the maximum amount of sales they can get, which is understandable, but they are doing that at the expense of the customer. They are basically saying that they hate their customers who like used games because that's obviously what the DLC's insentive is, is to buy the game new. So they just say they're gonna play favorites with their customers. That is of course if the DLC isn't free which it very well could be.

Translation: If you don't have internet, you're getting shafted. If you're going to buy the game used, prepare to give Microsoft some of your money anyway.

It's a good way to ensure that even used game sales are beneficial to the company, but it's pretty lame for anyone without a broadband connection.

I don't think they're saying they hate their customers who buy used games.  They're decreasing the value of the used product.

Can you still buy Forza 3 used?  Yes.  Will you still be able to buy this stuff even with a used version of Forza 3?  Probably -- it's a pretty good guess, anyway.  Will this decrease the value of used versions of Forza 3?  Absolutely.

Right now, Gamestop sells used games for $5 less than the going rate for the new copy of the game.  That's crap, really.  They should be selling it for much less, and tactics like this /will/ decrease the value of used games.

And it screws people without Internet connections, but they don't mind that apparently.
