I'm not sure when I'll end up getting the game, but hopefully the championships before I can pick it up will be a success so they'll still be around when I do. I'm not the best at the game, but I have fun nevertheless ;).

Selnor, I'm curious why you chose the scoring system you did? Would it not make more sense to make it at 8-point system or even a 10-point system so people that participate at least get a point out of it? There will be no difference if a person races and gets 6th-8th and if they don't race at all with the way you have it.

Maybe something like this?
1st = 10 pts
2nd = 8 pts
3rd = 6 pts
4th = 5 pts
5th = 4 pts
6th = 3 pts
7th = 2 pts
8th = 1 pts

I was trying to keep it fairly real for what reality has for F1 etc.

The only thing that worries me is if First has 10 and last has 1 that is a 9 point gap rather than a 6 point gap. It would keep the championship tighter with less of a gap. But hey I'm open for suggestions. And the like. What do others feel comfortable with?

Ok, I'm 31 and have a seven month old kid, and ... I just spent EUR 350 on a beautiful racing wheel (fanatec Porsche 911 S series) so I can play this game (and hopefully GT5 as well) in the best conditions!

Let that be a lesson to all you kids out there, growing old (and making money) has its advantages. Just don't tell my wife...

You in then?

I'd love to but could be time issues. As said earlier, I'm in EU so if races played at certain times in US, could make it hard for me to join...

But I like the idea of 1 hour races, that's perfect!

I livein UK. So the time will be good for both. I also have a child so It will be good for everyone. :) Is that a yes then ?

Perfect, yes count me in. I'll need practice (I'm in the top 8% with the R8 on the demo but after only 4 laps so I (hope) think there is room for improvement!). I'll only get my wheel and pedals in November but at least I'll get to know the tracks and all starting on thge 23rd!!

For points, I like your idea better (keep things close). or tracks, times, cars, I'll leave it up to you. WOuld ge good to change cars though between races (not every race but maybe every 4 races have a "special race" using an old timer, or all ferraris, etc...).

Elaine: I will never understand people

Jerry: They're the worst.

Awesome. I'll play around with your car idea. Obviously races will be class specific. :)

It should be like in F1.

You could do without the bonus points for first and second and just make it:

1st = 8 pts
2nd = 7 pts
3rd = 6 pts
4th = 5 pts
5th = 4 pts
6th = 3 pts
7th = 2 pts
8th = 1 pts

Then it's only a 7 point gap.

I don't know much about the F1 scoring system, but doing a quick Wikipedia search it seems like it matches my first suggestion exactly heh:

"Points are awarded to drivers and teams exclusively on where they finish in a race, with the winner receiving 10 points, the second place finisher 8 points, third 6, fourth 5, fifth 4 and sixth 3, seventh 2 and eighth 1."

What I meant was that F1 has alot of drivers that don't score. That is how real racing is. Not everyone scores. So I took the F1 model and shrunk it to account for only 8 cars. See? It means people will try to stay out of the wall and also try to push to their limit. All adds to the excitement. No?

I would do it but i'm not that great.  I play the game on a controller with automatic setting on, and I usually leave ant-lock braking on and have the assist line on for when I should brake...

I suppose. I guess my thinking is that it might help with participation more and at least show who showed up for their races better. But, whatever works ;).

I don't think that'll be much of a problem. If selnor's not making us use manual transmissions, he probably will let us do what we want with assists and such, don't quote me though.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.
