Forums - Nintendo Discussion - For older gamers (30+) - Zelda OOT

I've had that feeling, though it was with Wind Waker back when that was released and Majora's Mask this year. They both just clicked..

Outside the Zelda franchise, it'd have to be Super Mario 64.

30 years+ counts for people that played the Atari 2600 when they were little kids, or people that played Super Mario Bros when they were middle kids ... I include myself in that range

When OOT was out back in 1998, people born in 1979 (30 years) were 19 years old, out of high school, with the right to vote, go to wars and have sex with adults without sending them to jail (but still not drinking age, that's f'ed up)... So of course we saw the epic Ocarina of Time, but we also saw the original The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link and A Link to the Past, and we were blown away with the transition after a lot of years of waiting...

It was an incredible moment for me, because the N64 was my first home console., and I loved it.
For me Zelda OOT is the best game ever made, because, the story was so unique, special. Not only loved the graphics (amazing at that time), but i specially liked the sensation of playing that game.
I never experimented such a feeling like playing that game in that way.
Obviously a lot of people ´ll say that Uncharted 2, Gears of war, Call of.... are better games because of the graphics and stuff like that, but i'm talking in terms of gameplay, story and, the most important thing for me, a really inmerssive, fun, wonderful piece of art. Not much games could be in this category (no matter in what console you are talking about). But, of course, is my opinion, and for opinions....

To be honest, at that time I was busy doing the highlighted things, rather than play a video game. I am from Europe though.

I so wish I had played this when it came out, because trying to do it now for the first time, it's borderline unplayable.

Why do you have to exclude one or another? you can even do the 3 of them at the same time in some cases XD XD

BTW, just to clarify, I talked about US case because of the majority here, but i'm also not a US citizen. In my country, we can drink when we're 18 (and we really do it, our country is always on the top 3 beer consumer per capita), and we don't go to war, i assume that's your case since you're from a european country (unless you're Finnish then you have duty anyway)...

Faxanadu - I'm for Europe (Scotland), aged 35 now and played videogames at 18 as well as going to pubs/clubs, having sex with female students and the odd fat bird (now married - bbooooo, I miss the fun of a night out on the pull), going to the cinema, playing football (soccer) etc. What on earth has Europe or America got to do with it???

'The Anarchyz' basically summed up why I said 30+, but i'm sure many younger gamers also got that magical feeling when playing OOT.

Faxanadu, you are a bawbag (Scottish slang for scrotum).

I wanted to point out that video games didnt give me as magical feelings at that time as the other two activities. Hence less interest and my preference of AlttP.

I pointed out Europe vs. America since drinking isnt allowed until the age of 21 in the states.

Try for reading comprehension first the next time, before insulting someone.

I was just young enough that I had tears in my eyes when I finished.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
