Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why did you pick Nintendo? Is it really gaming?

....What reasons could you have to NOT buy a Wii? There's no such things as negative reasons to buy a console, only a dearth of positive ones, and there are games on the Wii that fit every taste.

I will be forced to purchase a wii when Zelda comes out if it isnt the cell shaded cartoony link. But because i have such trouble liking what The wii does i just want to see what people see in it just to see if i am over looking something

I could sit here and list of number of games that I think are great but if you can't get past this kind of mentality then you are never going to enjoy Nintendo games.  Nintendo has always made games for the masses, but games whose heart and challenge belie their cute and colourful exterior.  Games that are made to appear friendly and non-threatening from the outside but only long enough to suck you in a get you hooked, charmed, mesmerized and addicted to their unique qualities.

It sounds like you have had very little to do with Nintendo this generation, i'm not sure about about previous generations but if your concept of what is "true gaming" is defined by something that isn't Nintendo, then there is going to be little that we can do to change your mind.  If you truly want to find games that provide an experience that you simply can't get on any other system then you are going to have to learn to check your preconceptions, your notions of true gaming and really give Nintendo a chance to win you over.

On the other hand if you want to continue to subscribe to the fallacies that Nintendo is for the kids and that all great games this generation can be accounted for with the purchase of ANY single console, then you are an unfortunate gamer.

Yes the DS has a few RPG's and a mario game but what else?

Not gonna bother with the rest of your post, just wanted to highlight this bit to let everyone know what we're dealing with here...

Probably a previous sentence could gave us a better picture:

"It just doesnt have true games on the systems."

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

i don't know man, i think they're doing just fine. they've got plenty of games just like they did with every single other console and handheld they have ever produced, they just don't appeal to the older generation as much as before. i mean they have super mario. he is the reason video games are what they are today

Of course it is gaming!!
Just think about it: Zelda, Mario, StarFox, Metroid, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Pokémon and their spin offs...

Zelda yh i love it

Mario yh i love it

StarFox yh i love it

Pikmin nah never heard of it

Fire emblem same as pikmin

Pokemon. I hate them aprt from the stadium like games

You have to pay attention to what people are playing to understand both the DS's and Wii's appeal.  Just because you don't like Pokemon, or don't acknowledge the value of Pikmin, Fire Emblem and others as franchises doesn't give you the grounds to say that either is for the really fat or really young.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I am just interested what the wii does to sattisfy the more core gamer. I am interested in it but i dont know if it will satisfy me. So i just want to see why it attrackts people to see if its for me

For starters, what kind of games are you interested in? If you like Mario, you have Super Mario Galaxy, and New Super Mario Bros Wii coming this year, Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming next year. If you don't mind RPG's then you also have Paper Mario, and Super Mario RPG on VC.

I think you said that you aren't interested in Metroid, but Metroid: Other M coming next year may be something to watch out for, especially if you like Team Ninja's work.

You have Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a new Zelda may come next year, or atleast 2011.

Do you like on-rails shooters? If so, you have 2 Resident Evil games and Dead Space Extraction. Next year we will see Sin & Punishment 2, a shooter from Treasure (I think?), and the first one can be found on VC.

If you like RPG's you have a whole bunch incoming. Tales of Graces, Final Fantasy: CC CB, Fragile and Arc Rise Fantasia. If you played Tales of Symphonia on GC, then ToS 2 may interest you. You also have Muramasa.

Want more mature themed games? Check out No More Heroes and MadWorld.

There are also quite a lot of "hit or miss" games (or something like that...) like de Blob, Zack & Wiki or Deadly Creatures.

I've probably missed a few but that's a couple of "core" games for you.

What are the top 5 Wii games in your opinion?

I have a wii because I grew up with Nintendo...had a snes, n64, and gamecube...so I love zelda, mario, and a few other Nintendo franchise games that I can only play on the wii.

It certainly doesn't have the same amount of quality games that my ps3 does but nonetheless it's nice to have...

I can understand completely why some people dislike the wii/nintendo because of it's lack of hardcore games & Nintendo's focus on the casual market, and not having enough AAA games but I choose to focus on the positives rather than the negatives. The wii is there and it's nice to have but unfortunately it doesn't get used at all because I'm on my ps3 instead but then that probably reflects my 'unwillingness' to give some wii games a go whereas I'm always willing to give a ps3 game a go.
