Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Do PS3 owners not buy exclusives

Some of the best exclusives have been released on the PS3. I myself am a ps3 owner and remember my fellow ps3 owners always complaining about the lack of exclusives for the ps3. Now, many brilliant exclusives have been released such as Killzone 2 and metal gear solid 4 but ps3 owners do not buy. If MGS 4 had been an exclusive on the xbox it would have sold 10 million. Look at HALO ODST.

If I was a developer, I would stop making exclusives for the ps3 and make exclusives for the xbox whose owners are a lot more loyal to exclusives.

Please can all my fellow ps3 owners tell me why this is?

Erm, no. I think that PS3 owners buy games in similar ratios to PS2 owners (being that a large number of PS3 owners were PS2 owners), and that no one game on the PS3 can get a large attach rate. It means sales are more spread out. This can be a blessing and a curse.

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 - Niche game.  The only reason it got as much press as it did is because it's a large niche (but still a niche) and it got hyped to Hell.  And no, it would have sold any more on the 360, it probably would have sold less since its niche is largely Playstation loyal.
  • Killzone 2 - Other than graphics, it wasn't anything special.  Other similar games available on the PS3 had it beat in every other catagory.
  • inFamous - Had competition from a game almost exactly like it.
  • Little Big Planet - Sold a lot more than I thought it would and I suspect it didn't sell more because it's the wrong audience for the PS3.

What other exlusives are you talking about?

because of the crappy advertising sony does...how are they supposed to know about them?theire not all into gaming news websites u know...

Half of PS3 games are from Sony and I have a few 3rd party exclusives so you're not talking about me =)

1. Most people use PS3 as a Blu Ray player.

2. The price hindered the attach rate.

3. Sony rely too much on brand loyalty. They're stepping their game up, though.

4. MGS4 sold very well. Killzone 2 sold all right. LittleBigPlanet sold over 2 million, which is pretty good.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

In the beginning of the PS3 til early 2008 most people were buying PS3's as a Blu Ray player since stand alones were too high in price. Thats probably why some Sony exclusives sold less than expected. The installed base is larger now, so the expetancy for games like Uncharted 2 are higher. Also as for 360 having more loyal gamers, probably half the people who owned 360's would've owned PS3's if it was at fair price. Alot of the purist gamers fled to the 360 during the 2006-2007 period. Eventually more people should have PS3's though.

MGS 4 is one of the best games ever made. I am certain that if this was an xbox exclusives it would have sold way more.

I have seen and have friends that have bought a ps3 after playing MGS 4 and killzone 2. These were friends who had xbox's. These games would have been very big on the xbox. Killzone 2 is the most realistic shooter I have ever played and I am a COD fan. Ask xbox owners that have played this game, if this was on the xbox, would they have bought it?Killzone 2 would have sold more than double the units on the xbox.

On top of that, inFamous is nearing 1 million.

Maybe we lost our second job due to the recession. LOL
