Forums - Sales Discussion - PSPgo nudges hardware up 120 per cent

Sony has revealed that sales of PSP hardware are up 120 per cent following the launch of the PSPgo in the UK. It's not quite the 999 per cent performance the PS3 Slim put in. [Sony contacted GamesIndustry.biz to alter the percentage from 100 to 120, in case you're wondering.]

Sales of the PSP-3000 also grew, GamesIndustry.biz reports, as owners snapped-up long-awaited releases Gran Turismo PSP and FIFA 10 - the latter setting a new record for the series.

Chart-Track will not release UK-specific figures, but we're told PSPgo and PSP-3000 sales were neck-and-neck for the week.

"PSPgo has performed in line with our expectations, driving 100 per cent incremental volume for the category and has benefited the broad PSP portfolio with PSP-3000 also enjoying a big lift," said Sony Europe in a statement.

"PSP software sales also having been a standout with both new releases GT PSP and FIFA 10 performing well."

The new PSPgo launched last Thursday and sells in the UK for £224.99. Early adopters are able to download a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP until 10th October, and UK consumers can also access a deal which allows them to download another three games for free if they register with Sony online

Ofc it isnt a failure,Sony knows what theire doing,i expected this ^^

Not quite the slim but deffinatly not a flop

I keep on hating its controls, but I guess a lot of people like them. If it was cheaper, I could consider it a good portable media player with occasional gaming added value. To say it all, at the current price not even DS manages to make me like portables. Good for Sony, anyway.

So... The PSP (Go and 3000 combined) selling 6k extra units in 1 week in the UK isn't a flop? honestly the DS totally destroyed it with 32k sales in the same region.

Also you have a misleading title, as the UK != the rest of the world. We're looking at 30k units in NA + 6k units in UK so far.

It's funny when we say games like The Conduit is flop, i always hear how the developers are happy with the sales, yet Sony says they happy with the sales but you think otherwise.

@nordlead
The PSPgo hasnt really been advertised that much in the UK. Most people dont know about it. I expect the sales to continue climbing

"Up 120 percent"... isn't that more than double, nordlead?

As a side note, I'm surprised anyone complains about the controls -- they're much better placed and more comfortable than the original PSP was, IMO.

Then again, I have fairly "average" sized hands, for an American male. I think someone with bigger hands might actually prefer the PSP-3000. Likewise, I think someone with smaller hands than I (i.e. 95% of Japan) would probably prefer the Go layout.

I hated the original XBox controller ("The Duke") as well. The S-controller & modern X360 controller is way better.

I've never addressed if the conduit was a flop or not. Honestly, compared to the hype they generated it was a flop. I'm sure it will make a profit, and I'm sure the PSPGo will make a profit, but those are underwelming sales for a new model that comes with GT for free.

However, if you compare the PSPGo to the PSP 2000 & 3000 it has done well as both of those were complete failures other than keeping the sales from completely plumeting. And before you say that the 3000 boosted sales in Japan, I will claim that was due to Monster Hunter which would have done just as well on the 2000.
