Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Big Forza Fan -- Underwhelmed by the Forza 3 demo. :(

Funny how fast some people turn on their fellow gamer for having an opinion. Wait, funny? I ment sad.

Personally I'm not a racing fan, but I did download the demo to try it out. Wasn't bad. But wasn't anything that would get me into the genre. I do know one thing though, Turn 10 really overhyped their game which makes a great game look so much worse burried under all the mountains of hype. It's very rare for a game to overcome an obstacle like that though.

It's like you see a movie without any preconceptions, no ones opinion. How many times have I heard a movie is shit and then I see it, expecting it to be real bad, and I am pleasantly surprised. Conversely, you see a hyped up movie and expect the world. 9/10 times that great movie will not deliver. For me, one exception of a hyped movie that delivered was the LOTR trilogy.

So, the danger of hyping a game is that people will expect the world. But you never know, F3 may be a LOTR. For me 9 times out of 10, that is not what happens.

damn good post. i couldnt have sait it better myself

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Coming from a guy that doesn't care for race games, this will be the first I purchase all based on my imprssions from the demo. Maybe big race sim fans aren't as impressed because the competition is really good too.

people are jumping all over this guy because he mad an opinion about a game when he played the demo? thats sad.

I'm absolutely loving this game and it's my first true racing sim. I have almost all the assists turned off at this point. So in terms of gameplay I am extremely satisfied by what I am experiencing.

Damage on the other hand has been disappointing. Maybe it's cause we've gotten used to games like Burnout and Grid but I expected more than just scratches on the paint when I slam into a wall. The mechanical damage is there but the visual damage is almost non existent. Maybe racing fans only care about mechanical damage but for me I would have liked to see actual deformations to the car. For what it's worth I think that GT5 is going to disappoint when it comes to damage as well, based off the videos I've seen.

On a side note anyone know where I could buy a cheap racing wheel? I feel like playing with a controller really takes away from the experience of the game.

Which is a stupid thing to say because no game has ever been and never will be perfect. If that is your mindset going into GT5 your going to be very disappointed. Besides I'm basing this off the damage videos released so if you think those videos represent perfection when it comes to damage modelling then me and you have a very different definition for the word perfect.

Bearing all of the above in mind you've somehow come to the conclusion that its only a small evolutionary step, perhaps you never really wanted to like the game.

Perhaps you didn't read my original post?  I didn't just want to like the game.  I wanted to love the game.  I'm a huge Forza 2 fan...

Perhaps I did but my otherwise well written post was referencing people other than the OP too.  That sentence really wasn't needed though in fairness so I can take the criticism.  My point still stands you're harshly judging a game on a demo that is very very unrepresentative of the final game though.  I assume you'll at least rent it if the good reviews start piling in though so I guess not all hope is lost for you.

To others in here asking why people are questioning somebodies opinion I'll state the bleeding obvious once more.  This demo is absolutely not representative of the final product, if you're disappointed then fine but stop trying to read too much from a tiny gameplay portion.

This doesn't really affect me any but just to let you know, the community manager himself said that this demo is a representation of exactly what your going to get come the end of the month. The game's not going to play any differently, which I mean come on, that's why you play games. Sure your going to get more content but playing the demo you know exactly how the final product is going to play and you can very well make an opinion from that. What do you think a demo is for? It's trying to intice people to buy the product. No one here is trying to write an official review of the final game for ign from a demo. I've only seen people say that the demo wasn't very good in there opinion and because of that he's come to the conclusion of not getting the game until a price drop.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but F3 feels more like an expansion pack with some graphics tweaks rather than a new game.

That's exactly what it is.
