The only explanation is well, maybe the Japanese are starting to actually like the PS3.

Still doesn't explain why ToV had 0 effect on PS3 hardware sales (if the 50k stabilization is true).

Or why ToV had a huge impact on PS3 hardware sales (allowing it to stay at 50k for 2 weeks).

If it's not one of these, it's the other, which is why it's so unbelievable. I'm beginning to debate if Famitsu screwed up somewhere, but if Media Create confirms sales this high, I don't know how to explain it.

We've seen other Gundam games to 200k some weeks, and the effect was pretty minimal.  There have been a few RPGs (ToV, Cross Edge, WKC, etc.) to bring the pre-FF jRPG audience over.

Of course, the console could just be gaining traction on it's own.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I'm actually baffled at the amount of denial here. Why can't people just be happy for it and move on?

Tons of people are happy about it, but the question right now is why it happened. Stuff like this is unheard of, it would be nice to know the cause.

Im not shocked, but a little suprised, there are alot of PS2 owners in japan, not only thta but blu ray has hit mainstream there

mM

You people thinking about a PS3 pricecut, as about x360 pricecut in Japan.
But japanese always liked PlayStation, it`s just was a bit expensive.

Why so suprised about pricecut effect? It`s not x360.

Perhaps they realized just how much the PSP Go will cost and thought to themselves "I could buy a PS3 for only a little more...."

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo
