For me the wii is already outdated, it is yet to have a game that looks as good as God of War 2, and will never have any games that look as good as the worst 360 PS3 games. Once games like killzone, Halo, GT5, Ratchet, Uncharted, and Fable 2 come out the wii will start to be another gamecube. Don't get me wrong I think the wii is awsome and have spent a lot of hours playing wii sports and will spend a lot of time on smash bros and galaxy, but games like FFXIII, Uncharted, GT5, Killzone, Lair, Heveanly Swoard, White Knight Story, The Getaway, 8 Days, Home, Little Big Planet, MGS4, Socom, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Afrika, Halo 3, Forza 2, Fable 2, and many others will take up the major majority of my time. Motion is fun but due to the limited power of the wii it can only go so far, and once that happens it can only go down hill.
The Wii is roughly twice as powerful as a PS2. Expect the graphics to get better over time. It's already looking nice for Medal of Honor: Vanguard and Sonic. I know it'll never be as good as the 360/PS3, but the Wii isn't as weak as you make it out to be. Unfortunately, it just does NOT have the CPU to process the 1:1 movement everyone wants...

You're wrong on many accounts ... The Gamecube was (roughly) twice as powerful as the PS2 and the Wii is (roughly) twice as powerful as the Gamecube; this means that the Wii would be (roughly) four times as powerful as the PS2. Secondly, the CPU is powerful enough to do 1 to 1 movements (and the Wii can do one to one movements) the problem is gesture lag. Consider the act of writing a word on a piece of paper, people who complain about this lag expect that a computer could know what the word is by the initial stroke on the initial letter of the word; an impossible task. Developers will pay more attention to this over time, and adjust the gesture they're looking for appropriately so the lag is less noticeable.

this just in: Xbox 360/PS3s gameplay value outdated by november 19 2006. i feel graphics have some importance, but when it comes down to it they cant cacel out gameplay. if graphics were the big thing then we would not have videogames today because the NES and such would have bombed miserably. the wiis gameplay is something microsoft and sony will never be able to touch with any advanced graphics. but i think your right, an advanced form of the wii could be out by then. its hardly unthinkable, they already talk about the "Wii2" or whatever they call it.

If Sony or Microsoft launch another console after this generation, advanced graphics alone won't make it. Nintendo is disrupting the market as it was known (more processing power, more epic games) and will be the only force out there in the next years. As Nintendo said they won't compete with Sony and Microsoft. Because their isn't any competition this time.
i wish i could shake your hand after reading that post. i agree 100%. the wiimote is something nintendo can build around forever just about, sony and microsoft have just realized that SLIGHTLY (because there is only room for slight improvments, no matter what anyone thinks) improved graphics and maybe better online play WILL NOT cut it if another system does something out there that works. now nintendo has done that and if sony and microsoft make a PS4 and xbox...H20 or something gay and unoriginal, and all they do is improve small things like graphics and still have the same controllers (o wiat i forgot that sonys tilt sensitive controllers are revolutionizing gaming..), i guarantee they wont sell at all. nintendo can do that, just improve graphics and itll be a hit, because they have A LITTLE more room for improvement. other things could be thought of too, maybe different attachments as opposed to the nun chuck. sony and microsoft and already behind, just trying to think of something of there own to do. its like the DS and PSP. nintendo has been doing the handheld thing for years, sony had no idea how deep of water they were getting into, nintendo knew what was up and they dominated despite having completly horrible graphics compared to the amazing PSP. no one wants to buy games for the PSP that they could have bought for the PS2, its just that simple. plus big games for the PSP are 90% loading times.

Technically speaking a current high end gaming PC should be able to out due the 360 and PS3 by quite a margin. It all comes down to how this hardware will be used in the coming years, not it's brute strength or ability to push polys.

As for talking about the power of the wii, it is marginaly weaker then the original xbox (3 megabytes of ram if I remeber correctly) I don't think that the wii will be able to beat the PS3 in the long run. The PS3 if lucky will have just enough developers to show the casual fans that the motion sensing controls on the PS3 are better and that the pointer is useless.

Guys - graphics are pretty much irrelevant now. We have hit photo-realistic images, lovely 3D, procedural animation, special effects and more. The difference between the Xbox & PS3 isn't that high - so much so, that Sony's selling point for this generation is "high-definition" (increased resolution) {yawn}. I spent most of last night playing Legend of Zelda 1 - a NES title. The graphics suck, but the game rocks - and I had a great time. Its irrelevant - graphics are now good enough. Its time to explore new forms of games - be it through networking, multiplayer, control systems.. or something else.

Not on Wii. Platform is poor but not as poor as the graphics devs provide on it. I think it's important to be aware this generation will be the longest reigning ever. Costs are extremely high, games have few million budget. I don't think Microsoft or Sony will hit with new hardware before 2015. This battle may last even more than 10 years. Xbox360 and PS3 have a lot of power in reserves (especially PS3), Wii is poor right now, so I think it will not win in long term because there is nothing more than innovation control system. It will not be "new" for all these years. Nintendo wants non-gamers but 5 year period is enough to make them gamers. After year or two of playing in this silly world they will want something more complex. That's the way it works. I've started with Giana Sisters and Commando. PS2 will not be dethroned.

I don't think Wii's going to be lagging behind in terms of graphics, the first Wii games were done in less than a year because nobody was betting on Nintendo anymore, devs started working on the Wii only after the E3 2006. The first generation games for the console are graphically aweful, but the next wave is gonna rock. Moreover the Wii don't need ti live 10 years, if it keep selling that pace it could reach the 100 million user base in 5 years how knows? And at this price nobody cares if we have to buy a new one 5 years latter, or maybe devs won't like to change every few years...
