Forums - Gaming Discussion - Best Controller Options - PS3?

After TGS, am I the only one who believes that the PS3 will have the best control options available by Christmas of 2010?

First you have the standard controller which can handle virtually any game designed prior to the Wii.

Next you have the wand which could handle all Wiimote only games with dramatically improved visuals.  I realize that the wand is a straight lift of the Wiimote, but a new buyer won't really care who the originator is.

Finally there is the eye toy which could handle at least some of the simpler games designed for Natal.  Also, the Natal will not have any buttons, and despite what some people say, it will not be comfortable to move around with a 360 controller in just one hand.

I realize that the 3 options on the PS3 will not be able to handle a Wiimote + nunchuck or vitality sensor (or whatever new accessory Nintendo will launch next), and also won't be able to do some of the more advanced features that Natal will be capable of, but really at this point there is no control setup that can handle all the various types of games available.  My point is that the PS3 will be able to handle the widest variety of games.

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

It definitely will have quite a wide selection of controller options but remember so does Wii. Wiimote/nunchuck, WM+ option, Wii balance board, and of course classic controller/gamecube controller. All of which have received very good support.

This is really what it is going to come down to with the PS3 is it has the variety of controller options for developers but will it get support. Even further will it get support from the customers along with the developers. There are over 20 million balance boards in circulation, closing in on 5-6 million Wii Motion Plus, of course more than 50 million wiimotes and nunchucks, and we could estimate at least 10 million have either a classic controller or gamecube controller considering GC turnover and classic controller use. It's got customer support along with developer support.

This is what we will all be looking at for PS3 controller options. Will they be bundled with the system and if not how much will they cost separately? Will developers support start to support all controller options in similar fashions to the Wii? I do believe PS3 has the potential to have that wide variety that Wii has, if not greater, but it's more than just having it but having it used and supported by customers and developers. This is the big question we are all waiting to see how it plays out.

I'd rather not hold my dualshock and the wand at the same time, thank you very much.

I suppose along that line of logic your correct. but lets wait to see what kind of support it gets before we judge its wand controller

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

The potential is there, but it needs to be taken advantage of. It pretty much all comes down to Sony. If they can issue a nunchuk accessory to remove the quagmire of holding both a Motion Controller and a DualShock, release proper bundles for one or more motion controllers along with the PlayStation Eye and possibly a game at a reasonable price, and release a program enabling the PlayStation Eye to recognize basic motions as well as facial features to be used for navigating the XMB and signing on respectively, then they truly will have the perfect combination of all controls.

The options and technology are there. Make it happen Sony.

I think we still need more info as to how we will be playing.

Also Natal is still shrouded in mystery atm. Saying wand+eye will be close to it right now seems a bit premature. At least that's the impression that I am getting through the media hype.

What I understand from devs such as Kojima, Natal is in a league of it's own for control. He is quoted as saying games that are only possible on Natal. Something which all Japanese devs have taken hold of. So I guess it's what you like. new tech or existing tech.

Natal is going to fail. Of course they can realize games which cant be done with the other system, but are they going to feel good and are they going to make long term fun ? Will they be able to develope Concepts which make actually sense. For Example in a game like Oblivion I could imagine how they would include the Wand and hopefully something like the Nunchuck and not the DS 3. But how the hell you should play it without anything and would that feel good ? Swirling in the air with hands without holding something.

And can they track the movements really as exact as the other 2 competitiors Motion Controls. Will the Concepts which Sony cant realize with the Eye and the Wand be so much better ?And the most important question is why tested Nintendo the 3d Camera from Natal and declared they wont use it ? That is for me the question if Natal was not good enough for the WII why should it be good enough for Xbox 360 ?

Sorry this is off topic but nobody ever seems to reply to my question, but does Natal need alot of room space for the camera to see your whole body and use it?

....If so then Natal would fail big time since average home owners around the world and majority in Japan doesnt have that much open space in their house in front of their TVs.

But yea does it?
