Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN editor: No worthwhile Wii games have released since 2007.

@Sorcery: You're a perfect example of someone who is trying to marginalize the PS2's library based on the popular games you played. While there are plenty of "popular" great games for ps2, you are really only scratching the surface if that's what your basing your opinion of the system on.

My advice is to dig deeper in the genres you like, and to avoid generalizing based on the popular games. The ps2 has a lot to offer just about everyone. All the ps2 titles you've mentioned, with the exception of Ico are very popular games. I just can't take comments like yours seriously when you've ignored such a huge part of the PS2s library.

When I said I look at the PS2 the same as the Wii, I was more or less referring to the non-major releases. Excite Truck, Zack and Wiki, etc. They're good fun, just forgettable.

So, I can safely assume you just haven't played the many fantastic niche games on the ps2 or even the less mainsteam ones. Just because they're not major, or lack popular appeal, doesn't mean they're forgetable. Sorry, but that bolded part is the most ignorant thing I've heard all day.

I agree. To each his own but for me I find the Wii worse than the 64 and the cube and they had hardly any games either.

What, do I need to mention Klonoa 2, Shadow Hearts, Grim Grimoire, XIII, and Phantom Brave too? There are plenty of games I've played that were enjoyable for the first romp, but I'm not itching to go back and play all of them. Some lack the polish that comes with being a big budget title, some are good for a single time through, and that's why I compare the PS2 to the Wii. By the time the Wii's dead, there are going to be dozens and dozens of hidden gems, but an even smaller handful will be worth going back to.

The PS2/GCN/DC/Xbox era were the years in which I experimented with the unknown more than any other generation, I wasted thousands of dollars that I'll never be able to recoup. Just because I'm not going to name off every game I bought doesn't mean I'm ignorant. Also, there's plenty of stuff I know I missed and wish I tried out, but that's because it's impossible for me to play every game I want to play, especially when a lot of times I like to get caught up playing an old classic.

There are "niche" games that exceed many of the more popular titles though. From the ps2 inparticular: Gitaroo Man, Klonoa, Rez (I know this is a DC game), The Red Star, Frequency, Amplitude, Sky Gunner, War of the Monsters... there was just so much to play, and many of those games are great enough to warrant going back to. I still play Rez, Frequency and Amplitude at least a couple times a year. I completely disagree with your statement that non-major games are forgettable as I have found that to be entirely untrue, and strikes me as a very ignorant thing to say.

About the Wii, while it will have many great niche games, it lacks the software diversity that the ps2 had to really be directly comparable. Regardless of what genre you were into, the PS2 really had so much to offer in terms of the sheer number of titles in each genre and depth within each genre. Even then, you could always boot up something from the immense ps1 library with smoother graphics and reduced loading time.

Having procured a gamecube a little over a year ago, I too have enjoyed many great GC games, and see how someone could have ignored the ps2 entirely and still enjoyed themselves just fine. Just considering how 3rd parties approached the GC last generation, it ended up with far fewer inventive, creative and immensely enjoyable third party games by volume which means even with Nintendo's unparalleled first party awesomeness, it's still a distant 2nd.

I'll totally give you Hard Man over Wood Man, since he's a giant boner, and he gives you "Hard Knuckle" which is not only a better weapon than the Leaf Shield, but takes his weird masturbation metaphor even further.  But I still think Crash Bombs are better bombs than Hard Knuckles.

Quick Man is the sexiest robot in the series, and totally the inspiration for Viewtiful Joe.  And he has one of the best levels in the entire series too.

Gemini Man is a fun boss to fight, but after you beat him, you don't get to split into 2.  You get a shitty crap turd lazer.

And Metal Man could kill 10 Gemini Mans at once.  He'd shoot his blades up, down, anywhere.  The lazers would just bounce all slowly and be too easy to dodge, while they just jog around in their glam jumpsuits.  I don't think Gemini Man is actually 1 robot that splits into 2 anyway.  I think he's 2 robo-bros that "become one" when you're not around.

And most importantly, MM3 music doesn't even touch MM2 music.

You can't fist the enemies with Crash Bombs like you can with Hard Knuckles though.  That's its own special kind of ownage.

And no, Quick Man is not the sexiest... that's Protoman.  Protoman is a mixture of awesome and win and smexocity.  And guess what game Protoman first appears in?  I'll give you a hint, it's not Megaman II.  It's the better game, Megaman III.

And you know what?  Metal Man wouldn't even live long enough to get near Gemini Man.  Shadow Man would have already killed Metal Man 20 times over.  And you know why?  Because he's a freaking ninja.  And not only is Metal Man not a ninja, he's not even a pirate.  He'd never even see it coming.  He'd be just walking to work one day, passing through Wily's maze of death when BAM!  Shadow Blade to the neck.  And that's the last you'd ever hear of Metal Man.

And no, MM2's music is not superior to MM3's music.  They're just different but more importantly, Megaman 3 has something that Megaman 2 will never have... Protoman's theme.  And Megaman 2 has nothing on that.

That's OK, there hasn't been anything worthwhile on IGN since 2002.

Best post so far.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
