Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Playing my first Halo.

I'm not saying he's bad in any way, but I just feel his voice feels so out of place, and he doesn't need to speak. nothing he said at any time during my play made any input to the story. There is very little important dialogue and i feel the halo story is told through the actions of the players rather than the dialogue, which is why it just doesn't make sense, he doesn't have any input to anything and then just spouts some random line that feels so out of place. It's kind of an insult really, because the way you have to play and the things MC does makes me feel he is an intellectual, I'd rather he be silent but that's just me. game is still awesome.

I see your point. Maybe read the books to. You understand alot about MC. You see him from a 7 year old kid in the book Fall Of Reach. Explains alot really. Especially why he rarely talks. Also I guess playing through Halo 1 and 2 may have shown you different light on his speech in the whole trilogy. I really like his voice. It fits well with his vhildhood and teenage years. He never went to school and was trained as a soldier for the Spartan program from 7. He lost alot of friends to during Reach and training. Thats why I keep saying if Halo : Reach is based on the book, it will quite possibly be the best game experience ever. I cant wait.

Masterchief is a serious badass...but so are the Spartans in general. I just remember the cut scene near the end of Halo Wars, when 3 Spartans charged into the oncoming Covenant Elites and Brutes...walking war machines.

Well, I gave in. I had a lust to play games like Banjo-Kazooie: N&B, Ninety Nine Nights, Lost Planet (PS3 version sucks..) So Picked up the 332$ Elite with halo 3, and I said to my self: "I hate halo, but I've never played a Halo game before."

So I poped it in, just finished the first mission, I must say I can see the love for this game. Some things that surprised me...

1) This is a nerds campaign. There is nothing about what goes on in Halo that is anything other than a Sci-fi lovers wet dream. This game is in no way a "cool game" like gears of war is.

2) Pacing... well, the pacing is absolutely stunning. The game is really fast passed and its lots of fun to play.

3) Gameplay: Simply stellar, controls and variety in weapons/movement is amazing. I've used like 6 different sets of weapons in one mission. The jumping, aiming, melee just feels so powerful, so much fun.

4) Interface: I've never seen better, it is a work of art in every way.

5) Sound: Impressive, Rivals Metal Gear for sure.

6) Graphics: I know Halo gets a lot of hate on for this, but Halo 3 looks fine. I have absolutely no complaints. It runs very smooth, has nice lighting, and the textures are not nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

7) Fun: Massive points here, the game is so much fun to play.

Complaits:

I dunno if master chief speaks in every game, but he should just shut up, its god aweful. That's the only thing.

Overall: Amazing game. This is what gaming is about. I don't care about who plays this game. I know most of the people who play it are the people I cannot possibly stand, but it doesn't matter. This is a great game and for now on i'm judging games on playing them and not on who buys them / what system they are on.

Proud owner, wish I got it when it came out. Off to finish the game!

Can't wait to play some multiplayer after i get the rest of my single player games out of the way.

Haters stay out, you just are not giving this game a chance. Overhyped? Absolutely! Bad? Not at all, it's fantastic.

Welcome to the club. I kind of feel bad for you though - Halo 3's campaign is generally considered the weakest of the 3 I believe. If you had only experienced Halo:CE back in the day when it was knew... Now there was an experience. It was unparalleled.

I'm going to just get Halo:CE for my PC and download the texture improvements and run it at 1920x1200 with a 360 controller ;).

So for all you guys on vgchartz that still play, add me to your xbl. I have no friends on XBL as no one here plays the 360 (all ps3).

AtypicalLoki is my gamertag, I will pick up odst the weekend, I'm up for campaign tonight or multi player later tonight as well. Eastern Canadian, GMT -4:00 if anyone is in my tz.

Hey Mr Power. The Halo games are incredible games. It's funny you say about MC voice. Most people love it. It was one of the things back when Halo 1 released that people loved. Good voice acting for all the cast. Each to their. :)

Halo is an experience. I love the whole story. Thats my fave bit of Halo. ODST is very good.

That is why I love the series. Don't know why as i'm not right into sci-fi, but I just really get into the Halo story lines Love all the action and the twists and turns. I remember the first time I saw the flood, must have been about 13, those sections scared the life out of me

Mr Power - you should definitley go back and play the first 2 games, they still hold up very well, especially considering the first is about 7 or 8 year old now. I played them back to back through the night with an old pal I used to go school with about 6 months back, very enjoyable.

I know! Other people think lowly of the story but I find myself very much engrossed. The universe is just appealing possibly on the sci-fi basis or epic...ness

I think most people that criticize the story never played Halo:CE. There was nothing poor about it - the game told the story of the war with virtually no cutscenes, and you really got pulled into the character. The stories increased in scale, and decreased in clarity with the sequels, but I think most people who started Halo from the beginning realized the impressive story that was being told.

I haven't played the first 2 in the trilogy. I will try to though in the near future. But yeah, I had to fill in my knowledge with extensive browsing of Halopedia. There is a lot of depth but you have to seek it.

Halo 2 is better.
